Getting ready to brag about my #sealeychallenge reading at our upcoming #silentbookclub meeting!

(... and most of it is #CanadianPoetry, btw!) Me, in a yellow T-shirt with an ampersand on it, on-screen in a zoom window, gesturing to the pile of poetry books next to my laptop

AHOY! 🦊

On Saturday, September 12, Garden Variety and Oral Method come together for an evening of writing and performances, gathered outdoors in Garden Variety’s backyard garden in Toronto’s west end.

Our prompt for the evening is a fox from a dog, borrowed from Reza Negarestani’s 2012 essay “Undercover Softness: An Introduction to the Architecture and Politics of Decay.” In it, he recalls the wonderfully strange medieval question of whether “a fox can spontaneously be generated from a dog’s carcass.”

So: what might emerge from something else? What do we inherit, inhabit, consume, transform, or outlive? And what better time to consider decay, strange new life, and unruly transformation than harvest season? 🍅

With performances by:

Ishan Davé
Marlowe Granados
Aisha Sasha John
Dusty Lee
Austin Sauco
Dylan Tate-Howarth
Natalie Wee

Feat. Patti Robinson, who’ll be responding to the prompt through food. 🥖

Saturday, September 12

“Frustrating day not the day
itself picture book perfect
It’s my walk that’s laboured no
ease pleasure a bit of the Tin Man
not my affectionate Scarecrow
Sissyboy Leonardo still, she makes
her way, cause it matters
cause she wants to hear
the poets”

Reading @allexdeng

This “emerging” poet has been seen pretty much everywhere in support of his peers, now we have two occasions to relish, celebrate, return the love.
