When world famous marathoner Eliud Kipchoge broke the 2 hour barrier, he said “no human is limited”, that through hard work, self-belief, a great support system, and a positive mindset, anyone can push boundaries and go beyond their limits, ones they never thought they could achieve. It’s not an easy road to get there. It requires hard work, sacrifice and a constant belief in yourself even when your body and mind may disagree. It may mean Saturday long runs.  Running in the wee hours of the morning. Running in the pitch dark of night. The hot and humid Chicago summer. In thunderstorms. During wildfire air quality notices. Running when traveling and vacationing. Getting yourself on a treadmill because there’s no other option. It may mean trying different gels, salt chews, shoes, running belts, and figuring out carb loading.  Asking a million questions and the biggest one being “Can I really do this?” On Sunday, all of this manifested itself and that question was undeniably answered as our runners braved the vibrant streets of 29 Chicago neighborhoods to run a daunting 26.2 miles. And what a magical time it was. From cow bells, to cheers, to high-fives and smiles, to the funniest poster signs and zapping them for power.  To our own MRC cheer zone at mile 15 that brought so much energy and enthusiasm that it gave us all the boost we needed. To our friends and family that ran with us for a little, gave us hugs, motivated and encouraged us, and helped make the pain a little more bearable. To the many charities our runners supported with thousands of dollars and duaa. Chicago was electric on Sunday showing out in a big way, reminding us why it’s the best running city in the world.   The magic on Sunday isn’t possible without all the support we’ve gotten from the ChiMRC community. As our Doc Safwan says, you see so much camaraderie and unity during running events because it’s communal suffering followed by celebration. We suffered together, ran together, ate together, got PRC together, learned together - and we’re all the better for it.   There will be days you think you can’t run a marathon, but for these runners, there’s a lifetime of knowing they have.

Every mile is a celebration, so come celebrate with us! On May 4th, Chi MRC hosted a Eid celebration with ~50 attendees! We heard from recent marathoners, we kicked off summer training plans, and we met laughed with old and new friends! In just a few months, we are so proud of how much we’ve grown and how far we’ve gotten. Alhamdulillah for all of our blessings. 📈👏🏽🌙🏃🏾‍♀️🙌🏽🏃🏽💚
