Chill Year

Thank you to everyone who made this year a great one for me. I learned how to play pickleball, wrapped up my track career and got to see Hamilton in person, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all of you guys. Thank you 😎.

Let me know if I forgot to tag you

Wrapping up Day 1 of the NJCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships was our men’s spear chucking crew.

Leading off for the guys was @bigev_throws who was still supplying the energy from his awesome hammer finish. Evan didn’t hit a big throw and finished 18th overall which was better than he came in, but more importantly he provided the support and leadership to help push his freshman teammates in their first National competition.

Entering the second flight our #1 for the Jav crew @ajdavis_16 came in having thrown his second best throw of the season during the last regular season meet. Unfortunately, that meet was an eye opener as it was obvious he was struggling and later opened up about a back injury he was trying to train through. Coming in ranked #5 in the country AJ still pushed through the pain but was unable to make the final with a mark far below what he’s capable of from just a penultimate when healthy. Aj is chasing marks from his predecessors and there’s no doubt he’ll be among them next year.

Rounding out our Jav crew was @a.mgw742 , a member of our Basketball team who’s predominantly a sprinter and jumper, he established himself by coming into Nationals ranked #7 with 44.48 m’s which was a 50+ foot PR from his high school mark. The night before Angel approached me and expressed his nervousness about competing, he wasn’t sure if he should be here (at nationals) and said “coach I’m a hooper” I assured Angel he was exactly where he should be. As the competition started Angel walked over to me and still nervous stated again “coach, I’m a hooper”, reassuring Angel I told him well you’re a hooper that throws Jav, now act like your driving to the lane and dunk this thing, he did just that. Throwing his second, third and fourth furthest marks ever, despite not hitting a PR Angel was able to hold onto 4th place, claim his spot on the podium, plus earn USTFCCCA All American honors!

The Bomb Squad headed out to the rolling farms @bluejaysxctf for what historically has been a solid tune up before our National Championships and this year did not disappoint.

Day 1 was Hammer time and the sun was out. The ladies got to turning with Sophia hitting a PR on each of her throws to move herself to #6 in the NJCAA DIII. Kara maintained her #1 ranking in the country definitively hitting a PR four times to break the 40 meter barrier also ranking her #28 within all JuCo divisions! On the guys side both Jordan and Nicasio also hit PR’s!

Day 2 the sun turned its back on us again, though the clouds plus rain returned it did not dampen our women in Discus as Grace finished her PR season streak going 4 PRs in 4 meets, Kara threw her second best throw ever to take over #7 in the country, while every legal throw by Sophia was a season PR, plus a new lifetime PR to finish in 2nd place and catapulting her into a #2 ranking in the NJCAA DIII as well as #27 within all JuCo divisions! The men would follow up with Nicasio throwing his second furthest and Jordan his third furthest throws of the season.

Heading to the cannonball toss Oprah was spreading all the love where Evan hit multiple PR’s, Nicasio and Jordan both hit new PR’s plus each qualified for Nationals, Sophia would hit two season PR’s and Kara would again maintain her dominance as #1 in the country taking first in the meet with a new lifetime PR which is presently tied for #26 within all JuCo divisions and the furthest throw in the NJCAA DIII since her 2019 Bomb Squad predecessors Elisia and Emily!

Then after a cold, cloudy, wet and nearly 8 hour wait the lightning rod tossers got their chance to throw. Evan and Angel both worked on some steps and tried to put together a good toss while AJ would have his best overall series with his third furthest throw of the season to finish in 7th place. And last but not least Grace would wrap up the weekend with her third furthest throw of the season.

The Bomb Squad now prepares for their last meet, the NJCAA DIII National Championships, stay tuned!!!
