Prop Records X Surplus Market Saturday October 17 at Space Mountain (Above Scarrs Pizza Taylor Square.)

Market from 12-6 including stalls from Prop Records, Distort, Sexy Romance, Landslide Books and Wintergarden. Shal is launching Aje photo book THE REAL WORLD EXISTS ON THIS EARTH.

Tunes all day from stallholders plus DJ sets from G2g, Fully Feudal and NEIS to launch the new Prop Records compilation LP “ENCOUNTERS from the ANTiPODES” .

We will close the doors for a short soundcheck from 6-7 and return from 7-11 with sets from Elliot DJ, 3NDL355 and Mark N (Bloody Fist Records).

This event is FREE and ALL AGES.
Heads up: this venue is only accessible by two flights of stairs.

@aje_aje_ - this is for you… like you asked (but maybe a bit more than a zine). 🤍

Before Aje passed, he wrote me a note, asking me to make him a zine. And left that note, together with all of his negatives and a few rolls of undeveloped film.
A few months later, @onlyonemode handed these things over to me and I was left with this incredibly hard and overwhelming job; of making this book and looking through this enormous body of work he had left behind. It took me a few months of sitting with it and thinking how to do this project before I could start. Thinking of all the ways I could present this work, that isn’t mine, in an authentic way to Aje, and to all of the people who love and miss him.
But at some point I just had to begin, and work it out. I couldn’t just sit on these photos and continue to let time pass. So I started editing down selects of photographs. Photographs I had no idea of the context, or the locations, or what the moments meant.
I felt feelings of grief, and sadness. Happiness and joy.
Working out what should and shouldn’t be printed.

I don’t even know what to write here. I have so many feelings and thoughts about this task and his passing. How do I summarise any of this. Talk about someone’s work. Someone’s life.

I just hope I’ve done him proud.

I’ve printed 50 of these books. 200 pages of photographs.
A foreword by Jem Siow. A small note I wrote at the end.

Available at Surplus on Saturday 17th October at the Marketplace we have put on above scarrs pizza at Taylor Square.

If I can sell these 50 I can pay to print more, and sell those online.
I don’t want to profit from this work, I just want everyone who wants it, to have access to it. And to spread it around the world.

Aje was a unique and much loved individual. Who experienced so much of what this world had to offer. These photos will make you feel like you can (and should) do the same. Make all the minutes count. Go to see and experience everything you can. Talk to people. Make friends. Take photos.

On the battlefield with our brother Aje. July 2024 in Boston, celebrating Aje’s 30th bday at the Have Heart reunion shows. This kid from a tiny town of Yeongju South Korea broke free from his cage and really flew to the top of the world. “One Blood We Bleed” was Aje’s song. I truly feel all his pain and power every time I watch this vid. We are all so free in this moment. It’s just so pure and perfect. Today marks one year since you passed brother. And I am trying to cherish every waking moment. Rest in power Aje Chang-Wook Yeo.
