Every season the nerves show up a little different. This year it’s the transfer portal, the coaching changes, the unknowns none of us can control as parents.

We’ve watched them grind through summer workouts, playbook installs, position battles — all leading to this moment. And now all we can do is hand it over. Trust the coaching staff. Trust the work they put in. Trust that we prepared them for exactly this.

So today we’re covering them in prayer — for their health, for their safety, for the strength to handle whatever this season brings, on and off the field. Because as much as we feel it, they feel it too. The pressure to perform, to adjust to new teammates, to prove themselves all over again in a landscape that looks nothing like it did even two years ago.

This is what we prepared them for. Now it’s time to trust it and watch them fly. 🙏🏽🏈

MORE THAN THE HELMET 🪖

A.J. Hoffler, Omega Psi Phi, and the principles behind the pass rush

On Thursday night you’ll see A.J. Hoffler the way most of the country sees him. Six-four, 260 pounds, No. 88 on the edge of Georgia Tech’s defensive front.
What the broadcast won’t show you is the part that explains him.

Hoffler is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., founded in 1911 at Howard University. Four principles guide every man who crosses: Manhood. Scholarship. Perseverance. Uplift.

Perseverance is the one he earned the hard way. He came home to Atlanta, then watched last year’s opener from the sideline, injured. He came back two games later, made his Georgia Tech debut in a win over No. 12 Clemson, and finished the year with ten starts.

Leadership is what his teammates hear every day. Ask him what the defensive line is chasing this fall and he doesn’t hedge: “Be the best D-line in the country. That’s all it is.” That’s a senior setting a standard out loud, then being the first man measured against it.
Scholarship is a business administration major at one of the most demanding academic institutions in America, carried while starting at defensive end in the ACC.

Uplift is the work that doesn’t have a camera on it. Community service. Volunteering. Mentorship. Showing up for young men who need to see it before they can believe it.

Athlete, student, businessman, brother, servant-leader. Not five different people. One.

Sept 3. Georgia Tech vs Colorado. Bobby Dodd Stadium.🏈

The helmet goes on at kickoff. Everything underneath it was already there.

You meet some kids who are quiet, gentle giants… but when you see the other side of them on the field, you understand — it’s hunting season.

That’s the read on AJ Hoffler heading into Thursday. Woodward Academy → Clemson → Georgia Tech, and now a healthy senior season with something to prove.

Look out for AJ Hoffler this Thursday against Colorado. 👀

5 DAYS OUT. ⏰

Last season, A.J. Hoffler battled back from an early injury that cost him Georgia Tech’s opener at Colorado — and made his return in statement fashion, helping the Jackets upset No. 12 Clemson, the very program he transferred from. From there, #88 played 11 games, finishing with 17 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and 3 QB hurries, flashing the kind of disruption up front that made him a four-star recruit out of Woodward Academy in the first place.

This year, he’s built on that.

For the first time in his Georgia Tech career, Hoffler enters the season fully healthy — and by his own account, playing faster, finishing plays, and operating at a level he simply couldn’t reach before. Now a senior anchoring one of the Jackets’ most veteran position groups, he’s healthy, motivated, and ready to be one of the most disruptive defensive linemen on Tech’s roster.

5 days from kickoff against Colorado — the opener he never got to play last year — A.J. Hoffler is set to remind everyone exactly what he’s capable of.
Lock in. #88 is one to watch all season long. 🔒
