🎤 New Course Announcement! | Spring 2026 📚

We’re excited to introduce Miss-Education: The Women of Hip-Hop — a multimedia course, lab, and performance workshop at Princeton University that centers the history of women in Hip Hop — not as a footnote, but as foundational.

Through a gendered lens, we’ll trace the development of Hip Hop culture, examine the range of women’s experiences within it, and explore the emergence and evolution of Hip Hop feminisms.

From MC Sha Rock, Roxanne Shanté, Queen Latifah, Sister Souljah, Lauryn Hill, Bahamadia, Lil Kim, Cardi B and beyond, this methods-based course will examine the lives and professional careers of women in Hip Hop by simultaneously focussing on how we preserve these histories. Students will learn to research, archive, and document women’s contributions to Hip Hop using practices rooted in Hip Hop archiving, oral history, performance, and podcasting. With guest speakers appearing throughout, the course will culminate in original creative and scholarly work showing at Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts.

Choreopoems are not just forms of entertainment they are forms of community healing and empowerment... the fine arts should be used to lift and empower our communities and not merely be platforms for the admiration and idolization of us as artists and performers. I believe the Arts are more important to our society than the worship of celebrity and the illusions and facade that the world creates. I would rather create spaces to heal in the fostercare shelters and homeless shelters, the prisons and daycare centers.

Respect to my colleagues creating every where but do not lose sight of our purpose for the sake of fake shiny gold.
