Custom high heels designed for She Dreams In Color Live! by Charlotte artist and friend Santos @ajsjunior after years of knowing I would wear his designs one day.

Aguinaldo Santos is a Brazilian-born, multi-talented artist, architect, and fabricator.

I first interviewed Aguinaldo (and May) for the 2023 Charlotte Shout @cltshout podcast when he first launched his ShoutOke interactive mobile karaoke installation Uptown.

His art, creativity, and constantly evolving vision for what he can build and design is so special and I’m grateful to be able to wear his work.

The shoes were the FINAL piece of the entire production as I picked them up on the way to the show the morning of the shoot and this video wa the first I’d seen them. I had not even tried the shoes on prior. It was all divine.

When I launched She Dreams In color interview series in 2021 I intentionally incorporated commissioned artwork from Charlotte artists because
Art is healing.
Art is uplifting.
Art is political.
Art is unifying.
Art is storytelling.
Art creates jobs.
Art builds bridges.
Art makes us happy.
Art matters.
And we are all a Work of Art.

The Hands Project is on the billboard!

I first learned the news some time ago, but today was the first time I saw it with my own eyes. I haven’t yet had the chance to go photograph it properly, so this image was taken from a distance, from inside the car (nothing reckless, I was driving on FSD).

Seeing it felt quite different from 2023, when my own work appeared on a billboard as part of the ArtPop cohort. There was a certain depth to this moment that I wasn’t quite expecting.
If your daily commute happens to take you past it, I hope you’ll take a moment to look. My sincere thanks to @adamsoutdoor for making that space possible.

The completed Hands Project pieces featured on the poster belong to @ajsjunior, Jenny from @wearegokotta , and @traveling_gypsy .
The exhibition itself is ready. All that remains now is for us to come together on Thursday and celebrate.

The Hands Project is now in its final stages.
We are almost there, but the work is still actively in progress.

Even in these last steps, layers of care and dedication from so many people continue to build upon one another.

This week, we had an official exhibition prep meeting with the LoSo Studio family.
Just as they have from the very beginning, everyone has been so generous, stepping in to help. A simple thank you does not feel like enough to express my heart.

Our opening reception will take place on September 24 at 5:30 PM at LoSo Studio.

Official details and announcements will be shared very soon.
Until then, I will keep working hard on the finishing touches.

I truly hope to see many familiar and welcoming faces there so we can share this special moment together in person.

Our “The Hand Project” is moving closer to its final completion.

Over the past few weeks, many beautiful backboards have been submitted. Thank you so much to all the participants for doing such an amazing job.

The Hand Project is still ongoing. I cannot wait to share the full collection of all the completed pieces together at the exhibition.

Happy 60th birthday, Unni !!

I know this post is a day late, but I really wanted to celebrate you.

I know so well how much you love this community and how you always try your best to help everyone. Just look around and see how many people truly love you.

60 is such a wonderful age. In an ancient Eastern philosophy book, Confucius called the age of 60 “Ee Soon (耳順)”, which means the ears become gentle. It means that at this age, a person can understand the truth behind everything they hear and accept others’ words with a wide and open mind.

But you were already that kind of person long before turning 60, so I think we need to find a new and special meaning just for you.

Let us always be happy together!

Blooming in New Land was born from the experience of starting over.
From learning how to exist in unfamiliar places, navigating change, getting lost, and finding yourself again.

Each piece was created as a way to transform emotions into color, paths into flowers, and personal growth into art. Because sometimes blooming doesn’t mean having everything figured out — it simply means having the courage to keep growing, even in new land.

On May 16th, Gallery Fifty One, in close collaboration with the Casa Argentina Foundation, welcomed guests fifty one stories above the Queen City for a reception and exhibition in honor of artist | muralist Maylen Garcia. Maylen brought to life Gallery Fifty One’s immersive Slide Into Charlotte mural. Her latest works include floral compositions and butterfly imagery, celebrating transformation and the potential for reinvention.

This collection will remain on display at Gallery Fifty One through May 23rd.

SERENDIPITY: From Mecklenburg County, Germany, Where Queen Charlotte’s Story Began, to Charlotte’s Newest Contemporary Art Gallery - Gallery Fifty One Debuts “CLT Flight 51 | The MecklenBIRD”, Flying Fifty One Stories Above the Queen City.

In a full-circle moment, the work arrived from Mecklenburg County, Germany to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, an alignment that underscores the gallery’s intention to connect artistic dialogue with Charlotte’s thriving cultural landscape and booming enterprise. Artist and Industrial Designer Janosch Reiter, of Berlin-based Studio Dicro Dosis, spent a five-day residency with Gallery Fifty One, culminating in the unveiling of a large-scale sculptural installation on Wednesday, April 29. The work takes the form of a striking, faceted bird, an architectural composition exploring themes of light, presence, and movement. Designed to exist beyond traditional display, the installation engages its environment, creating a dynamic visual experience that shifts with perspective and lighting. “Gallery Fifty One is built upon fifty-one distinct artistic narratives, each installation contributing to a larger dialogue,” explains Lisa DeMarco, Founder and Executive Director of Gallery Fifty One. “We are pleased to establish this relationship with Studio Dicro Dosis and are honored to be recognized for our vision and mission to connect arts and culture with enterprise and commerce in Charlotte.
