In American Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, guidance is about more than learning techniques—it's about learning the right mindset. A good instructor doesn't just teach you how to defend yourself; they help build confidence, discipline, respect, and sound judgment. Trust the process, ask questions, and remember that every lesson is another step on your journey.

Train with purpose. Learn with humility. Grow with guidance.

🥋 Some instructors teach techniques. Great instructors teach principles.

Training with Grandmaster Lou Ferrer was a reminder that martial arts are about far more than punches, throws, and submissions. His teaching style reflects a lifetime dedicated to preserving the traditions of Jiu Jitsu while emphasizing discipline, respect, practical self-defense, and continuous learning.

Every lesson reinforces that true mastery isn't just about what you know—it's about how you carry yourself, how you help others grow, and how you honor those who came before you.

Thank you, Grandmaster Ferrer, for sharing your knowledge and continuing to inspire the next generation of martial artists.

"Each One, Teach One."

This weekend, the Shinka Suru Jiu Jitsu family had the honor of traveling to New York to train under the legendary Grand Master Lou Ferrer Sr..

Grand Master Ferrer is the founder of the US Kodokan Federation Society of Black Belts U.S.A., Ferrer's Jujitsu USA Aikijitsu-te, Inabikari-Ryu Jujitsu, Judo, Karate, Arnis: The Art of Self-Defense USA, and Ferrer's Defensive System (FDS). His decades of dedication to preserving and sharing the martial arts continue to inspire practitioners across generations.

We're grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and carry these teachings back to our dojo. Every seminar is a reminder that the journey never ends.

🥋 Train hard. Stay humble. Keep evolving.
