This time yesterday Theatre Peckham was featured on BBC London!

We opened our doors to reporter @annareporting and @bbclondon , giving them a behind-the-scenes look at rehearsals for our Young, Gifted & Black season running throughout October.

Swipe to see more from the day and discover more about our wider history.

Artistic Director Dr @suzann.mclean , alumnus @akaicoleman and current Young Peckham cohort member @victorianw_ welcomed the BBC team and spoke about our past 40 years, where we are today, and the next 40 years of Theatre Peckham.

“More of the same over the next 40 years. Something we did recently is launch our manifesto, Building Belonging. We really believe every child and artist deserves somewhere to go, somewhere to grow and somewhere to shine.”
— Dr Suzann McLean

Don’t just watch us on your screens. Come and experience what Theatre Peckham is all about: talent, community and inclusion.

Starting with our Young, Gifted & Black season of shows !!!

Theatre Peckham is a hyper-local theatre which has been training and supporting local young people for 40 years. I caught up with alumnus @akaicoleman and artistic director @suzann.mclean about the theatre’s success. Catch my piece later on @bbclondon at 1830

With less than 24 hours’ notice, @akaicoleman was convinced (slightly pressured 😂) into running his FIRST HALF MARATHON! 🏃🏾‍♂️🔥

Let’s just say I was VERY surprised when I got the call this morning. I was fully expecting a:

“Uncle, I overslept.” 😂

Instead, I got:

“Uncle, I’m here.” 😭🤣

And from there… he absolutely SMASHED IT! 💥

13.1 miles, first ever half marathon, barely any notice and he made that distance look like it was nothing, finishing in a seriously good time! 👏🏾

Proud of you, nephew. This is just the beginning. 💪🏾

I’m looking forward to many more events together…

Although next time, I might give him a little more than 24 hours’ notice! 🤣🤣🤣

Don't fear the strength within you, it is only through the hardest tests, the deepest struggles and the obstacles meant to break you that you discover who you truly are. True strength is not given to you, true strength is revealed by what you overcome.

Face your fear
Face yourself
Know yourself
