Last week’s session flipped the script on how to pitch.

Akhilesh, Vivian, and Troy bravely took the mic to live-pitch their favourite films, and our industry panel delivered an absolute masterclass in real-time feedback. They told us exactly what makes a room lean in, and where a pitch falls flat.

The biggest takeaway of the night? Stop trying to perform, and start trying to connect.

Massive thanks to Naomi Mulholland, Christopher Kam, and Brendan Wan for keeping it so real, and to @chinatownmelbourne and our volunteers for making the space possible.

Meet Akhilesh Jain - one of three actors who’ll be live-pitching their favourite films this Thursday, with our industry panel giving real-time feedback on exactly what’s working and what isn’t.

An Australian-Indian actor based in Melbourne, Akhilesh made his feature debut in Jones Family Christmas (Stan Originals) and has credits across ABC, Netflix, and the stage at Red Stitch Theatre. He also recently led and executive-produced his own short film under his banner InkStory Productions - so he knows a thing or two about what it takes to get a project off the ground.

With acting, teaching, and shooting, 2025 was the busiest year of my entire career, and I couldn’t be more grateful to the people who gave me their trust, time, and support throughout it all.

I’m not ignorant to how fortunate I am to have made a career out of this. And no matter how tiring it can be (and holy shit, we can work some gnarly hours), I’ll always be grateful that this is the thing I’m lucky enough to be tired by.

So I just want to say thank you to the generous clients, deeply skilled crew, and extraordinary talent who brought care and commitment to every set. Being trusted with these stories - and working alongside people I genuinely admire - is something I don’t take lightly.

Though I’m shifting more of my focus toward acting in 2026, my shooting work isn’t going anywhere. I’m incredibly excited about what’s coming up, and can’t wait to share the next chapter with such a kind, supportive community.

Thank you to everyone who made this year what it was.
