A little look at what fall has been looking like lately around Santa Cruz County. 🍂

From dinner at some of our favorite local spots like Akira Sushi, Cavaletta, and Aptos St. BBQ, to a little shopping at CaliCoastal, and Jett & Rose, these are a few of the places and routines making this season extra fun.

And of course, Sunday sushi dates and grocery runs have somehow become our very exciting weekly tradition. 🤣

One of my favorite things about living in Santa Cruz County is how many ways there are to enjoy the everyday, whether that means supporting local businesses, getting outside, or finding a new favorite spot.

I tried all the crispy rice in town so you don’t have to! 🍣🔥

@sudasc ($15) – Loved this one because of the avocado mousse. It felt like an elevated crispy rice and had such a unique flavor.

@newleafcmarket ($13.99) – If you like your crispy rice on the thinner side, lower price point this is the one. For a grocery store version, it ain’t bad—just simple

@akirasantacruz ($18) – Gets my vote for the biggest and thickest crispy rice. So crunchy, so loaded, and definitely not skimpy on toppings. It’s pricey but it’s because it’s massive and loaded!

@wasabicapitola ($15) – Y’all… this one was round but taller than a lot of the others. Packed with goodness, loaded with toppings, and seriously delicious.

@akiraaptos ($16) – The spicy hamachi on top was epic. Probably my favorite topping combination of the bunch and one of the tastiest bites!

Otoro ($12) – Small, thin, extra crispy, packed with flavor, and the cheapest one I tried. Simple, crunchy, delicious… they absolutely nailed it!!!! shook

The real question: Team thin crispy rice or thick crispy rice? 👀🍣👇

Don’t ask me to pick a favorite because I changed my mind approximately 47 times while making this video. 😂

I got a BOAT full of sushi… literally. 🚤🍣 @akiraaptos

We ordered:
✨ Crispy rice with spicy hamachi (so crunchy and loaded)
✨ Jalapeño Poppers
✨ The Akira Roll
✨ Midnight Munchies Roll (the Hot Cheeto roll 🤤)
✨ My Hero Macadamia (veggie roll and honestly SO good)

HOW TO ORDER: If you’ve got a group and want to share, just ask for a sushi boat when ordering! It’s available at the Aptos location and makes the whole experience way more fun!

P.s they will be opening a extension with a full bar soon 👀

Always loved me some @akirasantacruz and now they got some new bangers on the menu!

THE CRISPY RICE!! “surfs up” Four alternating pieces of Spicy Tuna and Krab Salad over a bed of crispy rice and avocado. Topped with green onions, jalapenos, spicy miso aioli, unagi sauce and tobiko. SO MAGICAL AND CRUNCY!!!
