Favorite books of the first quarter of the year!

When I shared my end of the year favorites stack last year several of you were surprised by some of the books in the stack because you didn’t remember me talking about those books. This year I want to give repeat focus to some of my favorites to make sure they get plenty of love. I was going to do a favorites stack halfway through the year, but I have had so many standout books already that I decided to make a first quarter favorites. I’m sharing my top 4 physical reads and top 3 audiobooks.

Let's gawk at this wonderful @illumicrate edition of 'The Ivory Key'!

I finished it just about an hour ago (buddy read with @cafeyre) and I'm literally shook! This book hooked me from the moment I laid eyes on the cover and the synopsis.

Indian culture and mythology inspired, crazy good fantasy? ✔️
Magic? Secret society? RIDDLES? ✔️
Siblings and family TROUBLE? ✔️
A misunderstood ruler? An angry rebel? An unhappy brother? A prejudiced prisoner? ✔️✔️✔️✔️

I just love the siblings trope. That's it.

I adored the writing. Loved the storyline and the amazing plots tying together.
The character dynamics - even tho I hoped for one character to have more of a redemption - were very well written.
And the cultural representation in every way, political, food wise (omg the food!?!?), clothes and so on, was truly magical!

AND THAT ONE TWIST... I'M SORRY BUT @akshraman THAT LEFT MY JAW ON THE FLOOR.

Read it, folks. Read it.

BookTalk had it’s first in person event yesterday at @floridastateuniversity’s bazaar! Cohosted by the Asian American Student Union (@fsuaasu) Black Student Union (@fsu_bsu)and Hispanic Latinx Student Union (@hlsu_fsu), the bazaar highlighted student businesses and had a variety of workshops by on campus dance groups. BookTalk sold merchandise at a booth and also gave away books with Asian, Black, and Hispanic representation. ✨Found family vs Family Drama✨

I think found family will always be my fave but I gotta say I love books with a dysfunctional family dynamic that find their way back to each other 💛

I think that’s one of the things I’m most excited about in this book! The Ivory Key by @akshraman ✨This is the first book in an Indian-inspired duology about four estranged siblings working together to save their country. How gorgeous is this @illumicrate edition btw?! ✨

This book sounds like the classic kind of YA that made me fall in love with reading so I cannot wait to get to this one this year 🥰

I am not a huge fantasy reader but I loved the look of this and then saw someone selling the stunning @illumicrate edition and I could not resist. I absolutely loved it - it was so gripping and I adored the dynamic between the four siblings throughout. I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel once it's out.

Mango is my top 1 favorite!! Just so delicious, I also love it on dessert and cakes. Other fruits that I like are strawberry, guava, pineapple🍍

Oh my! I am finally done with this book some time back. I regretted waiting so long to start this book. I am glad that i picked up this book.

Look at that cover! It is so gorgeous. 😍 I fell in love with the cover first before falling in love with the entire book.

How often do you find fantasy set in Indian background? It’s normally mythology retelling that i have read so far. This was my first fantasy read in Indian backdrop. So imagine the excitement. 😃 (Hence the extra effort with the pic above 😌- using my own accessories)

The story revolves around four siblings and their quest to save their kingdom amidst political drama and troubled relationship between the siblings themselves.

I loved how the author had put a female, as the heir of the kingdom instead of the usual male heir. That’s something that I felt was different. Smashing patriarchy one kingdom at a time. 😌

There also portrayals of how parenting styles can influence one’s characteristics, self esteem and the relationship with other people especially your own sibling.

Hence, if you want to read fantasy genre set in Indian backdrop, with complex sibling relationship and splashes of magic packed with action sequences, this is a perfect book. I can’t wait for the second book. 😃
