better late than never! at the end of july, i had the absolute honor of spinning records at @rosesva_ for an incredibly fun 4 hours, alongside the homie @al_key of @killdevildisco ⚡️now for some story time...

i got the roses booking just days before a gig in raleigh that i was on the bill for with KDD, where i met Allen and Evan for the first time. their set was funky, fun, and groovy, and i immediately resonated with it. i could tell we were pretty aligned musically.

thennnn they played a track that nearly broke my neck bc of how quickly my head spun around toward the booth. the track was walk the night by the skatt bros (which i literally just posted about last night on my story, geeking out after finding it on vinyl), and i couldn’t believe it. i didn’t think i’d ever hear that track played out in raleigh unless it was me playing it 😂 that musical alignment was confirmed.

at the afters that night, Al and i naturally bonded over that song, talked shop, yapped about music and such, and decided around 4am that we should run the Roses set as a b2b. i’m so glad those plans left the group chat [the afters], bc after that gig, i’ve had the pleasure to collab with the guys a couple more times: i brought them on for RITUAL. in august and they invited me to play their @hopscotchfest after party at the wonderful @le.dive.bar (where they closed out their set with walk the night 😂 see last slide🤘)

here’s some blurry, poor audio quality vids from roses and some more snaps from le dive. much love to the KDD dudes ❤️‍🔥 and if you’re ever in VA beach, you’d be remiss not to pop into roses for a cocktail, a bite, and a dance!

BACK AT IT AGAIN!

LVR presents: KILL DEVIL DISCO

Kill Devil Disco was born from the booze-soaked chaos of Kill Devil Hills and dragged through the grimy underbelly of Brooklyn nightlife — a fever-dream party turned sonic cult. Founded by Allen Smith aka Al Key, the project began as a wild, all-night rager and evolved into a one-of-a-kind electronic act, equal parts ritual and clash. With Evan Slagle joining the fray — armed with a background in audio engineering and a taste for distortion — the sound sharpened into a blend of rare disco, indie sleaze, and raw, pulsing electronica. It’s not just a DJ set, it’s a full-body sensation under flickering lights, where the music hijacks your limbs and the night spirals gloriously out of control. They will be holding it down @lovesongva the night before thanksgiving!!
