Power Animal - a spirit guide in animal form that provides guidance, healing, and strength. We all may have one or more that guide us or when we see them gives us a moment of peace, relaxation, or a chance to just think or meditate.

Now available in the Museum Store: “Wagara” series by Alan Iwamura

Alan Iwamura is a craftsperson specializing in traditional glass blowing techniques. His work explores the integration of imagery and form while referencing classic vessels and ancient textile motifs, creating pieces that evoke a sense of modernity and visual harmony. Iwamura’s works pursue a visual experience that is both visually captivating and deeply resonant.

Iwamura relocated to Toledo, OH, in 2016 from Brooklyn, NY, and is currently the Glass Studio Manager at the Toledo Museum of Art. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from CSU, Fullerton and Bachelors degree in studio art and education from CSU, Chico. Iwamura has taught accredited courses in glass for many institutions including New York University (NYU), Long Island University (LIU), The School of Visual Arts (SVA), and Bowling Green State University (BGSU). He is a recipient of the Leo Friedman Graduate Fellowship, New York’s Metropolitan Glass Group Fellowship, and his artwork has been exhibited internationally.

Collection available in-store and online (link in bio).

I’m deeply honored to announce the acquisition of ReGift by @toledomuseum

5 years in the making, ReGift is an installation that investigates the multitude of histories discovered in the archives at the TMA. The sculpture is a three-quarter life-sized recreation of the founders’ parlor.

ReGift will be on long term view in Gallery 7 of the Glass Pavillion beginning January 17th

Witnessing the realization of this exhibition has been the fulfillment of a long-held dream. Each sculpture created by @marques.redd and myself signifies a step towards reviving the traditions of queer spirit workers, artisans, and diviners and introducing a new Afro-diasporic spiritual system to the world. I want to offer a heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the opening reception of “Myth-Science of the Gatekeepers.”

The show will be on view at the Pittsburgh Glass Center until July 28, 2024.
