Bucket list gig last night from the amazing @miked of the legendary @beastieboys. Forgot I was older than I pretended last night. All that pogoing has turned me gnarly. But it was f&£king worth it. Thanks so much to @areyouaffiliatedkingstreet for putting on this amazing gig. You’ve made this gadgie very happy. It was lush to bump into so many people I know too. What a special night. 🤘🤪🤘
Part two on Saturday in London with the magnificent @spudhopper. Can’t flipping wait.

🎧FEMENERGY DJ SPOTLIGHT - ALANNAH LAMB 🎧

Catch @alannahlamb_ at our FEMENERGY day party spinning tunes in @thelobbyvinyllounge and the outdoor terrace. The queen of the decks brings a skillful, no-nonsense approach to the booth. Refusing to be restricted by genre, she seamlessly weaves through electro, hip-hop, nu-wave, and rock n’ roll - conducting the dancefloor’s energy with pure finesse. 👑

A cornerstone of the Newcastle scene, Alannah is a key resident at Zerox and formerly TheCUT, Alannah has built a reputation for sets that are as unpredictable as they are eclectic. From her residencies to her high octane bi-monthly Slack’s show “Hard Candy,” to her queer-punk events label Anti-Pleasure - Alannah’s resume speaks for itself. Having supported the likes of Annie Mac, Lambrini Girls, Optimo and Gerd Janson, as well as DJing alongside members of The Libertines, Idles, Pigsx7 and Fat White Family. 💥

Alannah doesn’t just play music, she conducts the room, and she knows exactly what you want to hear - even if you don’t. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

International woman’s day

To the women who have touched and shaped my life. Thank you

To the ones who have held me, and to the ones who have let me go,
I am grateful for you all.

The ones who showed me who I am,
and the ones who showed me who I do not want to be.
I value you equally.

Femininity is not inherent.
It is not simply something we are because of our gender.

Much of it is learned? often forged through environment, society, and history.

Yes, we may be taught how to apply make-up,
to measure our waist,
to smile on command.

But that is surface-level shit

We are not taught how to access the deep ancestral grief and rage our bones carry.
We are not taught how to escape the boxes we are placed in,
or the labels handed to us.

The pretty one.
The smart one.
The good girl.
The helper.
The easy one.
The slut.

Before we even know who we are,
we are told who we should be.

We have been burned at the stake.
Ridiculed for our gifts.
Shamed for the natural ways our bodies change.

Expectations placed high,
the pressure even higher.

We have fought for rights that should have been ours from the beginning.
Shouted to be heard.
Climbed to be seen.

Our bodies turned into commodities
taken, traded, and sold into a market that profits from our worth.

And still we remain.

Weary, yes
Worn out, yes
Tired of fighting to survive.

Yet, we are portals
Life comes from us
We are the bridge between worlds
Between destruction and creation,
between what was and what is becoming.

magic was never something outside of us.

It lives in our bodies,
in our voices,
in the quiet moment we decide to trust what we feel.
When we remember we are ancients
When we remember we are wise
When we stand side by side
That is when we rise

Please tag and share the phenomenal women you love and are grateful for 💗🙏🏻

From Shields to St James.
From estate to stage.
From bedroom mic to Mercury Prize.

And for the first time in history, it happened here. Not just to hear the music, but to feel where it comes from.
Almost a month on from the Mercury Prize landing in the North East, and we are still feeling the passion, creativity and talent that lives here every day.

Gigs, workshops, masterclasses, community and more. The @generatorhq Fringe programme spanned seven local authorities and more than 20 events, bringing the region to life through our young people, our venues, our artists, speakers and industry leaders.

The passion is here.
The talent is here.
The future of music and creativity belongs here.

For the first time ever, the Mercury Prize steps outside London and the North East is taking centre stage.

Our two sold out Mercury Prize Fringe events brought local artists, audiences and industry voices together to shine a light on the region’s brilliant music scene and inspire the next generation of music-makers.

As the celebrations continue towards the main event at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, it’s clear the region’s creativity and community spirit are leaving a lasting legacy and putting the North East firmly on the map.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along, to Generator for teaming up with us to champion emerging artists and to the audiences who make this one of the best places for live music in the UK.
