Last year, I was given the opportunity by my friend Alex Nebout to join forces as A&R and co-producer on Contrefaçon’s new album. The majority of the spring and summer of 2024 was devoted to crafting and refining that unique sound and landscape, adding a final step, and making Alma what it is today.
The result is a blend of genres, from gabber and blasting rave-like saw bass and breakbeats to more refined tracks exploring dystopic themes with a defiant attitude. Using a more hedonistic and Rick Rubin-esque approach, I contributed to the songwriting and arrangements and co-produced the majority of the album. Julien Galner taking great care of the mix and polishing.
Fundamentally, Alma is a bold profession de foi, challenging freedom and the role of music and art in an AI-driven world. This idea of empowerment and the determination to maintain a connection to our true selves and souls is encapsulated in the song Emotions Lost (featuring yours truly).
Contrefaçon is not another band lurking on what’s cool. It’s a multidisciplinary pirate organization with four friends on a mission. They are rebellious and having fun doing what the fuck they want. In the upcoming months, you can catch them on tour and soon at La Cigale Paris or at a local club.
