The Alberta government has reached a deal with the federal government to support $10-dollar-a-day child care. 📍 Story by @IwroteIT The deal — announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier Jason Kenney Monday — will result in 42,500 new regulated early learning and child care spaces by the end of March 2026. "This is big news for families and it's yet another example of how governments work together to deliver in real, tangible ways for people," Trudeau said. Alberta was one of the last provinces without a deal but will now receive almost $3.8 billion in federal funding over the next five years. Alberta parents will also receive a 50 per cent reduction in fees for children under the age of six in regulated child care by the end of 2022. The new regulated spaces in Alberta will be split between licensed public, not-for-profit, and family-based child care providers. Calgary Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Deborah Yedlin said the child care deal is integral to Alberta’s economic recovery. "Today’s child care agreement puts Alberta on a more level playing field with other provinces, and, in the current context of the global competition for talent, this agreement makes Alberta more attractive as a place to build a career and have a family," Yedlin says. 🗣️ What are your thoughts about this announcement?
