The story behind The Bones Fund 🥀

A FaceTime that led to a giving-spree.

It feels appropriate to share this story this week, of all weeks.

After almost two years his spontaneous and selfless generosity still never ceases to amaze me.

The Bones Fund is raising money for the @albionfoundation - swipe to learn WHY 🔵⚪️

This one is something special to me personally and something I know Liam would love 🙏🏼

West Bromwich Albion (@wba) were mine and Liams club growing up, and still are. West Bromwich is the town I grew up in, like the rest of Liams family on my side, and it’s located in the borough of Sandwell.

Sandwell ranks as one of the most deprived areas of the UK, which means the work The Albion Foundation does is even more crucial.

Read through the slides to learn about the incredible work they do for the local communities around Sandwell and its neighbours.

🎙️ Really pleased to have had the opportunity to speak at the launch of the Adapted Physical Activity Research Unit @worcester_uni this week. 🙌

The session gave me a chance to reflect on the work I’ve been involved in for several years, exploring how people living with Type 1 diabetes experience sport and physical activity, and how those experiences can be used to drive meaningful change. 🗣️

💡 What started as listening to people’s stories and challenges has evolved into research, published evidence, conversations with policymakers, and ultimately helping put the topic on the agenda at a national level. 🇬🇧

One of the things I’m most passionate about is making sure that lived experience doesn’t just become another statistic or report. When combined with good research 🔬 and the right partnerships 🤝, it can become a catalyst for real-world change, which we’ve seen throughout this campaign.

A huge thank you to the University of Worcester 🎓 for the support they’ve provided along that journey. Their contribution has helped strengthen the evidence behind the work and create opportunities to move conversations into action. ‼️

🚀 The exciting part now is focusing on solutions.

⚽ How do we make sport more welcoming, inclusive and accessible for people managing long-term health conditions like Diabetes?

📚 How do we equip coaches, organisations and participants with the confidence and knowledge they need?

🌍 How do we turn evidence into practical change that reaches people where it matters most?

Still plenty to do, but it’s rewarding to look back on how far these conversations have come & thank some of our most important partners in the work to date 📆!
