Macchiato, a coffee-inspired pocket park by @out_architecture, proves that even the smallest initiative can leave a lasting impression.

Situated outside The Colombian Coffee Company on Petticoat Lane, the temporary public space – commissioned by @aldgateconnect for @londonfestivalofarchitecture – transforms an overlooked corner of the city into a space that invites people to pause, gather and reconnect.

Macchiato Pocket Park

Commissioned by @aldgateconnect for @londonfestivalofarchitecture, Macchiato takes its name from the Italian meaning of “trace”. Inspired by the circular stain left behind by a coffee cup, the installation reimagines this familiar mark as a shared bench in the public realm.
Fabrication developed in collaboration with @redcollectivelondon and @jamps_studio_london , with planting by Susanna Grant of @hellotherelinda Will Scholey of @scholeygardendesign, with thanks to Spitalfields City Farm, RosyBee, Beth Chatto Nursery, and Provender Nursery.

Can a cup of coffee inspire a public space? ☕️

Designed for the London Festival of Architecture 2026, Macchiato transforms an overlooked corner of Petticoat Lane into a welcoming pocket park. Inspired by the circular mark a coffee cup leaves on a table, the project turns an everyday ritual into a place for conversation, rest, and spontaneous encounters.

Commissioned by @aldgateconnect for @londonfestivalofarchitecture, the project translates the materiality of coffee production into urban elements. Stainless steel recalls industrial machinery, while the expanded cork’s texture evokes coffee beans.

Our Petticoat Lane Pocket Park wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for our partnership with @ethicalcaffeine, activating their outside area for the project. And it turns out, it was a meeting of minds.

We’re all about community here on the Lane, and with The Colombian Coffee Company being a social enterprise whose whole mission is around working with Colombian farming communities, it’s fair to say they’re keen on it too.

But why is community important? What was the space like before? How can taking a seat build connection? We’ll let Eduardo tell you more 🐓

Some moments from DSQ’s Diversity and Inclusion Festival 2026: a fantastic evening of incredible performances, music, and culture, hosted on 1st July by DSQ in partnership with Equinix and Aldgate Connect.

Curated and organized by Devonshire Square Community and Events Management, this year’s programme featured outstanding performances by 31 exceptionally talented artists from the LGBTQIA+ community and diverse cultural backgrounds.

Highlights included Project Dance, showcasing original choreography brilliantly envisioned by James Bamford, as well as captivating shows by Bollyqueer, the UK’s first and only all LGBTQIA+ Bollywood performance troupe; an engaging Latin dance showcase by Hispanic cultural entertainment specialists En Vivo Latino, and an interactive dance performances followed by a karaoke session hosted by internationally renowned drag artists, the Fabulous Globe Girls, in collaboration with Lucky Voice.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the talented artists, partners, and participants whose contributions made this event truly memorable.

A special thank you to Devonshire Square’s renowned restaurants - Devonshire Terrace by Drake and Morgan, Cinnamon Kitchen, Anise Bar, Story Coffee, Lucky Voice, and Enoteca da Luca - for providing delicious drinks and a taste of their signature dishes for our guests.
