Playing with the cast aluminum weather vane I started at @acreresidency with metal sorcerer @aldnbrk 🔥

Weather vanes point into the wind, showing the direction from which gusts originate. Instead, this functional weather vane points to where wind will travel— where fire will spread, smoke will blow, seeds will drift, grass will bend.

Season 2 / Episode 21 of #kimmynotkimpodcast is ready for ya over at Spotify! We are joined by Chicago artist, educator, organizer and SO much more... Alden Burke @aldnbrk

This is such a rich and delightful conversation about collaboration, friendship and (as Alden writes it) the question of "how do playful environments influence our capacity to create, play, and fall further into ourselves?"

Head over to Spotify to listen, link in bio ☝🏼

‼️ THIS SATURDAY 1-4PM: Art can be the production of new knowledges (if you want it to be) and, for me, the notion of artistic legibility is very often what halts such production (this is what makes being an art historian so tricky). Trying to put new knowledges in the ether while working out the habits that inform our comfortable prior gestures is a general challenge of our now times. To that end, much of what I hope I do is provoke permissions that galvanize a kind of furious and ecstatic curiosity about the otherwise of it all. The folks featured on Saturday - @alexbradleycohen @madisonmaeparker @aldnbrk @framesforwords @camillecasemier - represent to me some of the best of this kind of curiosity and I hope to see you out at @roots_and_culture_chi for what will be an undoubtedly cute (& edifying!) afternoon.

In the spirit of always being more than one thing GLITTER(ZINE) is an event program, fanzine, karaoke video listing, and poetry chapbook with three beautiful new written pieces by Alden Burke, lee rae walsh, and Madison Mae Parker. I made about 35 of these, come get one tmr (and help us glitter the place, a little enclosure from daily doom, a parenthesis to sing and move in the mire in between demanding things be otherwise) at Roman Susan from 7-9pm ✨

Roman Susan wraps up its Loyola run with open hours events everyday until the big finale next week, cannot recommend enough visiting this wonderful space and the people that run it before the curtain call.

Dear Chicago arts community, this report is for you.

Over the past six years, I’ve been part of a small team working on the Chicago Arts Census, a project that began in the early days of quarantine and has grown into a citywide effort.

We’ve just launched the public reporting phase!

The Census brings together what arts workers across Chicago shared about housing, healthcare, wages, caregiving, and the conditions that shape whether a life in the arts is sustainable. The launch includes a written report, an interactive dashboard, and a series of town halls across the city.

This has been a long, collaborative process, shaped by years of organizing, data collection, peer review, and community work. I’m grateful to have worked alongside Kate Bowen, Alden Burke, Tiffany Johnson, Anthony Stepter, and Adia Sykes, my beautiful co-organizers 💞

The GIF here is made from 482 screenshots from our meetings over the years, and it still doesn’t include the larger sessions with advisors and peer reviewers.

If you’re in Chicago, take a look at the report, explore the data, or join an upcoming session. If you’re an arts practitioner interested in data collection, it offers considerations you can adapt for your own work!

More to come! Chicago, ilysm🤓🫶🏽👩🏽‍🔬🧚🏽

Had the privilege to do an aluminum Hi Fire 🔥 pour with Alden and J. The adrenaline rush was spectacular and it was an honor to work with them. 10/10 would do again. I made some Trout molds because ... Trucha Editions 👀. Everything circles back to printmaking eventually.

Shout out to @blue__prints for the awesome photos and videos of the Hi FIRE !!! #crucible #metalwork #metalcasting #ingots
