Today I want to remember Luisa Richter not only as the great artist she was, but as the woman who, with her gaze and her brush, forever marked the story of my family. More than three decades ago, my two daughters posed for her in her studio. There, unknowingly, a story began that still beats today—born from a photograph I took during one session: a simple image of two sisters separated by a painting. Many years later, that image became the starting point for an artistic intervention project that now gathers more than 350 versions created by artists from around the world. Each of those interventions traces its origin to that moment shared with Luisa. Today I want to share a second set of images of some of these interventions.

HEARTBEATS FROM THE SOUTH
By @coleccionsasson
In times of walls and shadows, these works open windows. Four Venezuelan artists living in the North bring with them not nostalgia, but a pulse. This is not about looking back, but about beating differently. In their hands, art becomes movement, refuge, resistance, and an affective territory. Because even when the body crosses borders, something never stops belonging: the deep rhythm of the South.
That same pulse runs through the works gathered at the William V. Musto Cultural Center in Jersey City, where four Venezuelan artists insist on beating with the accent of the South. Their gesture is clear: they have not come to be silent, but to persist. Heartbeats from the South is not a decorative title; it is a declaration. A way of inhabiting displacement without losing the cadence of one’s roots.
Here, art is not a flag, but a refuge. It is not a shout, but an echo. In the face of the rejection that many migrant communities currently experience in the United States, these works do not respond with political slogans, but with a vital intensity that cuts through materials, textures, and surfaces. Cardboard, fabric, graffiti, collage, paint, loose gestures—even intentional “mistakes”—become forms of affirming freedom. The freedom to be, to remember, to tell one’s story differently.
