My first time attending, and it was a blast!

The BBBF is a massive celebration of Black literature, at the @barbicancentre, held on Sunday 4th Oct. There were panels on all sorts from poetry to space to a live murder mystery! Masterclasses, live music, Black Book Marketplace, activities, and authors/poets everywhere.

I sat through a seminar with @tiwalowla who has a way of making you feel invigorated to take on the world! Her book 'Confident And Killing It' was the first thing I bought - and I'm not usually a self help book reader, but when someone has a way to help you align a new perspective?...I'm down!

The live murder mystery was fun! Did I guess right the first time? No. Did I guess right halfway through? Yes! Did I renage my guess and go back to square one? Also yes 😅 - when it seems too obvious, THAT'S how they get you! Honestly, these fictitious murderers...

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting two murder mystery authors; @faridahlikestea who's new book The Heirs involves "five prodigies, one dead father, and a mansion full of suspects..." and @aleemawrites Winners & Liars, where dark academia meets murder mystery in a high-stakes literary competition. Meeting authors like these is such a treasured moment. They both took the time to really speak to each of us. Faridah is an intellectual force of nature who reminds everyone in the room to always question and never follow blindly. Even your teachers! Aleema reminded everyone the power of hope, and on a personal note, gave me an encouraging chat about writing and what it means to me. Words that won't be easily forgotten!

If meeting writers, hearing life coaches, and checking out creative works isn't enough...there was The Black Poetry Shutdown! What a way to end the night! 10 Poets, 5 mins each, and off they went. They were all phenomenal, the feeling in the crowd was electric, and the finger snapping endless! I especially enjoyed @malika.booker and @thaughtonpoetry. It was a riveting experience, and reminded me I need to get out and hit some poetry nights more often!

BBBF...it was a hell of a day!
Thanks for bringing together such great voices in culture.

Until next time ✌🏽📚🎶✍️🏽📖
