ACTIVE FUN 🏃‍♀️ Part two. This one’s about the training nobody sees — the intervals, the bleacher sets, the one more rep when you’d rather stop. @nikerunning

Shot entirely on 35mm & 120 film, Miami. 🎞️

Don’t give up. Keep going.

Strong over skinny isn’t a slogan. It’s the plan.

At 40, I lift and I run, and I eat enough protein to support both — not because of how it looks, but because of what muscle does.

Muscle is where you dispose of glucose. It is what keeps your metabolic rate up at rest. It protects your bones. And it is what decides whether you are carrying your own groceries at 80.

Here is the part women are rarely told: estrogen protects muscle and bone, and as estrogen falls through the menopausal transition, lean mass and bone density fall with it. You cannot supplement your way out of that. You have to load the muscle and feed it.

That is the conversation I have with patients every day. It is also the one I hold myself to. @michellepearlmanmd @nikewomen @artistsalinalaw makeup @aleinacrowd photography

Weekend whirlwind 🌪️🏃🏻‍♀️ when people ask me how I spend my weekends …

Yesterday

⏰ Up at 2 AM
🏋🏻‍♀️ 3 AM gym sesh @elev8tionfitness
💄 4:30 AM makeup with @artistsalinalaw
📸 7 AM track photoshoot with @lifeby_zay and @aleinacrowd
🏋🏻‍♀️ Gym sesh #2 @anatomy
🤦🏻‍♀️ Tweaked my back & started having pain even with deep breathing
👩🏻‍⚕️ Powered through clinic @primeinstitute.us
📸 Photoshoot numero dos at the office for some more professional looks @carlos_urbizo

Then I slept for 9 HOURS, which my body very clearly needed.

This morning? I woke up still in pain, exhausted, and kept shutting off my alarm. I was 🤏🏼 THIS CLOSE to not showing up @thegreatworldrunclub

I also haven’t run 6+ miles in about 11 months

But…I’m not a quitter. 😂 And, admittedly, my new neon @nikewomen outfit gave me a little extra incentive to get my ass out of bed and debut it.

Got ready in 20 minutes and showed up.

Was it my fastest 10K? Nope.
Was I thrilled just to finish? YES.

I ran the entire thing and somehow finished basically around my same time as last year—when I was actually training longer distances

Sometimes the win isn’t a PR. Sometimes the win is simply showing up and finishing something that you were very close to talking yourself out of. @josephyo78 @balance.isthe.key

And now? RECOVERY.

@lavenderphysicaltherapyfl saved the day with an evaluation + PT at her office, and I’m going back tonight for myofascial release.

I love training hard. I love pushing myself. But training is only one piece of performance. Sleep, recovery, mobility, PT and knowing when your body needs attention are equally important.

And so is FUEL. 🍎🥜

Instead of the Oreos being handed out after the race, I went for an apple + peanut butter. Later: Greek yogurt with chopped frozen dates, almond butter and blueberries. 🤤

Exercise isn’t an excuse for me to “reward” myself with food that doesn’t make me feel good. I want my post-training nutrition to actually help me recover and support my gut

Food is fuel. Muscle is medicine. Recovery is training.

Not every race needs to be a PR.

Tucked and nestled in the comfy rustle of “Calle 8” rests a well painted rooster that will greet you with some well made locally sourced art!, one would come in and be amazed with the sights to see & if these pics don’t do them justice I ask that you go see for yourself!, for what would a noid like myself know? I just follow where the smiles go ❤️‍🔥🫶🏼
