PROBLEMBIBLIOTHEK C/O BARDI is dedicated to the potential of knowledge, the hope of discovery, and the restless curiosity it preserves and promotes through a public collection of books.

The collection is the physical manifestation of a long personal obsession with printed matter, continuously expanded through book-digging across cities (and websites), unexpected gifts and encounters, and many generous conversations.

Deliberately incomplete, it is driven by chance and desire. It is happily non-institutional, immune to algorithms, linearity, and any form of “intelligence.”

Many more books, curated sections, spreads, and notes will follow.
Everyone is welcome to contribute, send notes, browse—online and on site, make suggestions, ask questions.

The database is designed by yours truly with the support of Jan Steinbach, hosted by EdCat, inspired and curated by many wonderful friends.

I moved to Florence in 2020.
There was the pandemic. I was ill with cancer.
Creating C/O BARDI has more to do with this than anybody—including myself—will ever understand. It has to do with the sense of impermanence I felt in that lead-coated, windowless hospital room. With the productive solitude of lockdowns, spent at home with all my books and the love by long-distance of all my friends. With the responsibility I felt when given the chance to live in this special space—and the only thing that made sense was to share it through projects and ideas.
Ever since, my energy, care, and resources go into it.
