Join us for the weekend at Fantasycon! It was absolutely fantastic this year with lots of exciting author panels, fun role playing games and readings. Plus Bar Con, although it would have been good to spend a bit more time there.

Participating was great and I think I’ve caught the bug 👀 hopefully I can do it again next year, if @britishfantasysociety will let me lol! I’ve certainly got enough inspiration and book recs to see me through to next year! It was a pleasure meeting up with old friends - no matter how briefly - and making new ones. It was a pleasure hanging out with @alethearlyons and @pscwillis and seeing @joaosilvawrites briefly (although 😭 no photos). Happy days.

Throwing out some Fantasycon highlights, because I’m still buzzing from the weekend! What a whirlwind of author panels and it was lovely to catch up with old friends and make some new ones! This won’t be the last post because I took so many photos and videos 👀

I did my first ever Fantasycon panel - Writer Beware: Tales from the Publishing Trenches, and did a reading of one of the Viking-inspired Dragon stories from The Blazing Book of Dragons to a live audience 🤩 I’m still puzzled as to how I managed to miss so many people who I know where there someone! Gutted that I couldn’t see all the panels! It was too good!

Frankly unbelievable haul from FantasyCon, where I was also able to attend a few panels and readings by some brilliant authors, and catch up with a few familiar faces at the Flame Tree launch! A huge congratulation to everyone involved in organising it!

Please forgive the poor quality of the images (must remember to sit at the front next time) and apologies to everyone I didn't get a picture with

Fantasycon is less than a week away and I’m going for my fourth time. I know a few people visiting for the first time this year, so I thought it would be cool to do a recap/guide to what it’s like. The first time I went, I just felt like I’d found my people 🤩

Everyone is so friendly and we’re all there to celebrate everything about SFFH - no matter how shy, everyone loves talking about books, tv and movies and there’s so much more. Cool panels, live author readings, an art gallery and dealer room, selling signed books, merchandise and much more. There’s the @britishfantasysociety Awards on the Saturday night and always someone to chat to in the bar.

Not all of my writer pals will be there this time, but I now know plenty of people to make it one of the social highlights of the year for me 🤓

Yes it is, but also life is better with the amazing writing friends who have been on this journey with me for the past 5 years! It’s gone beyond helping each other with our writing, with our publishing journeys, and into helping each other with our lives. Team Tea and Books was set up back in the Twitter days, as a way to bring UK writers together, and it changed my life. Team Pitch n Bitch existed way back when I had no idea what a query letter was or a pitch event, and the international friends I found there gave me all the information and tools I needed to navigate a rapidly changing industry. Many of these people are still good friends of mine, and though the glory days of the writing community on Twitter are long gone, the friendships remain. And some of them are here 😊 I appreciate them so much 🙂

I have just finished 460 words on Storytime, catching up missed Storytime efforts from yesterday, and completing the last bit I didn't *quite* achieve within the month of August for my August Writing Challenge. So, here's me summing up, with a huge thank you to @pscwillis @alethearlyons and @meljrey for the mutual support, reward surprises and companionship. 🧡 I definitely won't be stopping here as this challenge has seen me complete a Storytime episode for the first time in many months and make progress on my current novel WIP, also for the first time in a long time. Apparently, I'm rather extrinsically motivated and respond very well to the promise of rewards and all of you lovely people cheering on my daily efforts 😅 Thank you everyone! I'm hoping to balance a little bit more with Art Challenge achievements in the coming month as well, so hopefully you will get to see some little illustrations. Onwards to September!

P.S., No I did not create this post using AI! 🙄 I painstakingly went back and found all my relevant pictures to caption in relation to the goals. Not sure what has triggered that flag — maybe the Canva templates or maybe too many selfies in the midst 🤷🏻 But no, I wrote all this and took the photos apart from one stock photo of a library on the location goals page. My own efforts, thank you!

This tiny outdoor observation is no longer outdoors, but don't these look like *magic* beans? They're the seeds we're saving from the red flowered runner beans and I think they're beautiful.

Apologies for the quiet the last few days. I've been trying to make progress on my parent writers group planning, prepare for the existing local group (which unfortunately I no longer think I will be attending, so no more on that), and keep up on words, and posts have had to be a lower priority. I have *almost* completed my goals for the August Writing Challenge and just have to do some extra words on Storytime tonight to catch up, so I'm going to do another post later tonight once I've done those, wrapping that up and showing how I ticked off the various goals on my list! I know the algorithm won't be a big fan of the double post so if you could keep an eye out for the second one that would be wonderful 🧡

Tim Curry was one of my favourites, and his misfit characters always resonated with me so here’s a smattering of books filled with loveable misfits that I love (and one I wrote) in memory of this legend.

Rocky Horror Picture Show and Muppet Treasure Island forever. 🏴‍☠️ 👄 🖤
