POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This is @alex.tigg, photographed a couple of weeks ago on my driveway.

This frame was an experiment. I kept the same flash, slowed the shutter to around a quarter of a second, and moved the camera during the exposure. The flash froze one sharp version of him and the slow shutter dragged the rest.

This is the same setup with the camera kept still.

There's one @pixapro Lumi 200, overhead in a parabolic umbrella, and a grey backdrop behind him.

I've wanted to get a one-light-from-above setup right for a while, because a lot of the places I'm asked to shoot in are tight.

This is a crop from the same set. I shot it on the Sony A7R V with the 50mm f/1.4 G Master, and I've cropped in this far to show how sharp that lens is.

With the light that high, the catchlight sits right at the top of his eye.

This is the whole setup. The reflector lifted the shadows under the chin on some frames, but not on any of these.

I'd like to offer headshots like this, and they don't have to be on my driveway. If you'd like one, blurred or not, send me a message.

Saturday, @alex.tigg and I got together to try out a lighting setup I've been wanting to work on for some time.

Inspired by photographers @jessedittmar and @benbakerphoto, the one-light setup from above is something that interests me because of the tight spaces I need to photograph in.

The light is a Pixapro LUMI 200. It was the first light I bought and I've had it for many years. It sat above Alex and slightly in front of him, in a 130cm Pixapro parabolic umbrella with the diffuser on the front.

One light from there falls across the forehead and cheekbones, leaves shadow under the jaw, and fades as it travels down the body. It reaches the backdrop too, so the background needs no light of its own.

The hard part was judging the distance from Alex to the background, and the angle of the light. I started with it angled slightly towards him. Pointing it straight at the floor produced a better light.

It was a fab Saturday!

I did what I term, the photographers version of fishing.

@alex.tigg and I spent much of the day driving around the Berkshire countryside taking photographs of his car.

We took a route from mine to the @stgeorgeanddragon in Wargrave, through Henley out to Pangbourne Lamborghini (@hrowen), then back through Sonning.

I took the @sonyalpha A7RV with vintage glass.

These are straight from the camera.

We'll be making this a regular thing.

It's definitely confirmed my need (want) to become a @leica_camera shooter.

I'll be visiting @reddotcameras soon to check out their range of second hand cameras and glass. I've got my eye on the M-P (240).

I just need to sell some of the Sony gear. The A7III will be the first to go.

This year so far has been incredible 🙌 Sometimes you’ve got to pause, look back and think wow, I did that.

Along the way I’ve met so many talented and amazing people, and I can’t wait to meet even more. I’m only going to keep pushing, because I want more.

And if we haven’t worked together yet, hopefully we will soon 🤝.
