Excuse the long post but a tough one for me. After 25+ years of coaching I have decided to hang up the whistle. It’s been weird these past few weeks not getting ready for another season but it’s time. This sport that I love so much has given me so much in return but none of it would have been possible for some key groups. I have been fortunate to surround myself with some fantastic volunteers at the executive level, the equipment room, board room and on the pitch. Hats off to you for dedicating your time for the kids. Some fantastic coaches and technical directors have guided me along the way as well. From putting my hand up to coach the boys team back in the 90’s to going thru my certifications they have been awesome mentors. I have also had the support of amazing parents that wanted to see their kids get the most out of team sports. It was always my goal with every team I was involved in to provide an environment that promoted excellence, playing at a high level, having a ton of fun, travel opportunities and having the players understand the importance of team sports and how it could serve them with skills in the future. Then there is the players themselves. It’s strange looking back at the numbers that I have had the joy of working with and to see the most recent graduating players going onto post secondary or work life has been a reminder of former players. Some of these are now teachers, nurses, lawyers, business owners, etc. A few even have the biggest job in being a Mom themselves. They have won Provincial Championships, Coastal Cups and more international and local tournaments than I can count. The drawer overflowing with medals and shelf full of trophies means nothing compared to what fantastic young ladies they have become. These players have meant the world to me and while I will be in the bleachers not the sidelines the memories forged will last a lifetime. Thanks to you all, Coach Kev ❤️⚽️.
