COD & Agility Through the Rehab Process

During the early stages, planned change of direction (COD) drills can be used to help keep a controlled environment and allow the athlete to work on mechanics and gain confidence.

After a certain point, cutting around cones is not enough and a progression to agility and reacting to another stimulus is required.

In agility you have to not only focus on how to move your body through space, but also how to make the other person “mess up” to get around them or give you space.

This can mean agility can be further split into offensive agility and defensive agility.

Offensive is more about trying to make the opponent miss and get around them.

Defensive is more about closing the offensive player down and eliminating potential routes for them to take.

Here are some videos of a linear and multidirectional mirror game played by two athletes in which both would switch who is mirroring each turn.

This is a fun/competitive way to work on agility in a more chaotic, but not full sport chaotic, environment during the rehab process.
