"The Battle of Bisesero" is a Rwanda-set feature film in production that dramatizes civilian resistance by Tutsi survivors in Bisesero, Karongi District, during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The film follows 17-year-old Epiphanie and her father, Aminadabu Birara, who led organized resistance against repeated attacks using improvised weapons while outnumbered and outgunned.

The project has been in development since 2020, growing out of the producers' earlier work on the documentary "The 600: The Soldier's Story" about the 1994 Rwanda Genocide, which led them to the Bisesero resistance story.

Initially titled "Bisesero: A Daughter's Story," the project was publicly announced in October 2023 with casting confirmed for Tracy Kababiito, Wale Ojo, and Isabelle Kabano in lead roles.

South African filmmaker Mandla Dube is directing from a script co-written by Nigerian writer-director Ema Edosio-Deelen and Rwandan writer-director Joël Karekezi.

Produced by Emmy Award-winning Richard D. Hall, with additional producers including Alexandra Amon and Annette Uwera Uwizeye, the project initially sought to align its release with the 30th genocide commemoration (Kwibuka30) in 2024.

Production is now expected to conclude by mid-2026.

The project positions itself as an African-led historical drama developed from survivor testimony and multi-year field research in Bisesero.
