The thing I love most about the way I chose to live my life is that when you have next to nothing, then every little moment and every little thing can become absolute magic.
When you aren’t rushing to get home to the AC you look more closely at the way the river curves and flows and what spots might be perfect to wallow in while the heat passes.
After several lonely days on the road, a friends embrace can light up your whole world.
When you’ve been baking in a van for nights on end, a summer storm feels like salvation. Instead of drowning the sounds out with the TV, you laugh and cry and maybe you dance naked in the rain, filled with gratitude for a fickle universe.
You always talk to strangers on trail because hell, you’ve got nowhere better to be, and maybe those folks become life long friends too.

Life is much harder, but it’s intentional in a way that few things are anymore.
The things you do to survive the heat and the cold and the discomfort become some of the best stories.
You learn that a horse trough can double as a pool, that laughter and tequila are the best medicine for a cold misadventure, that Triple A will saw off your spare tire if needed, and that love, loneliness and endless desert skies pair together perfectly.

It elevates your level of gratitude for every bit of this earth, for every person who shows you love and kindness, for your own strength and the fleeting nature of this existence.
It’s not for everyone, but for me?
I think I’ll always chose this.
Because what is the point of life if you miss all the little things that feel like magic.
