✨ Introducing the D Harmonic Lora 22 - crafted for and with @alexandrelora 💛

"My inspiration to create this specific scale came from the wish of having a D Kurd with something different, one note different than the regular and standard D Minor. And I figured that if I changed the 7th, which is the C, to C#, I would have the melodic movements and the chord progressions that I was looking for." - Alexandre Lora ✨

Classical composers used the harmonic minor scale to heighten musical tension while keeping a clear path back to the tonic. This scale takes you on a mystical journey through soaring melodies, dramatic stories and incredible versatility. 🌿

Ushina is a spontaneous collaboration between handpan artist Alexandre Lora & multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Marlia Coeur, born in a single unplanned take around a handpan, a classical Godin guitar, and voice.

Ushina is the spirit of renewal and trust — the faery who reminds us that taking action and surrendering to what is are two sides of the same truth.

A meditative, organic piece rooted in sacred sound and impromptu creation.

There are songs you write, and there are songs that arrive.
Ushina is the second kind.

Our incredible faculty at Choro NW truly make magic happen. Along with our Artistic Director, guitarist Douglas Lora, our faculty members Dudu Maia (bandolim), Anat Cohen (clarinet), Daniela Spielmann (sax and flute), and Alexandre Lora (percussion), are all Grammy or Latin Grammy nominees and masters of other veins of music such as jazz, classical, and composition. They bring such infectious energy to campus, and leave us inspired for the rest of the year! Choro NW participants get to work closely with the faculty each day in small ensembles, master classes, and instrument-specific workshops.
