Halftime show #year2
36
I truly am blessed to be so devastated. Being devastated shows that I grew up with someone who continually showed me love and always worked on bettering his life and the lives of those around him.

Two weeks ago, my family and I did a race together called Government Peak. Josh and I hadn’t trained, so we weren’t taking it very seriously. I hiked the first 30 minutes with Josh, and then he decided he wanted to try to catch up to my mom and Liz, who were far ahead of us. He ended up setting a very hard pace and somehow caught them. After completing the race at the top, he headed down and found me about 10 minutes from the finish line. I said, “I’m pretty tired and I don’t really want to walk this trail down alone. Should I turn around?” And Josh said “Yeah, there’s no expectations, just come down with me”

Our hour long talk on the way down is one that keeps coming back to me as I learn to understand grief and a future without him. Josh talked to me in detail about his life, including his experience spending two years in Argentina, the ups and downs of life and why it’s important to fall short at times, the importance of talking about your emotions, and the significance of relationships and why it is important to let people go when necessary. I can’t explain now why this conversation happened, because a deep conversation like this with Josh only came around every once in a while. But it happened, and it was exactly the closure I needed.

Josh is loved by so many people and will always remain a light in our lives. Although he is gone, I see him in every purple flower, every yellow butterfly, every red sunset, and every cloudy 60° day (he hated the heat but couldn’t roof if the weather was bad). I will hear him in every Tate McRae song, every ocean wave, every beat down Cessna 172, and every country line dance song.

I don’t know why I was put here on this earth to endure such burdens. But I know for certain that everything happens for a reason. My family and I will continue to become the best versions of ourselves, not just for us, but for him. That’s exactly what he would want. I love you forever Josh. #witigug #john #backflipsforjosh
