![@alexframebyframe is an animation director based in Vancouver who's worked on everything from Star Trek: Lower Decks to Digman! & so many more. He appreciates the freedom to "create whatever his mind could dream up," and this ain't his first #5SecondDay rodeo. His short Badminton will be screening at #5SecNight25 Vancouver next Tuesday!
🏸 Tell us about the inspiration behind your short.
"We have a badminton group at the Vancouver studio and there's not much badminton animation content out there so I tried to put something together with a bunch of friends. I always like the tournament episodes in shows like Dragon Ball, One Punch Man, Kill LA Kill, so I tried to go in that direction but with badminton."
🏸 What was the toon-making process like?
"I started to gather a team even before having the idea, but then more people asked me to join & we ended up with 41 artists on it. It sounds like a ridiculous number, but we actually just ended up [with it] at the very last minute. It's a lot more action than I usually do for 5 Second Day, and it was just so many short shots that needed a fair amount of redraws. The team was made of some of the best artists at the studio, so it turned out so good."
🏸 What was the most surprising and/or fun element of making this short?
"This is my 10th Five Second Day film, but I always try to do something a bit different. The team was so excited to work on the project this year, [which was] my favorite part, just having a good time with friends & being thrilled to see more at every step of the process."
🏸 How does it feel to have your short broadcast to thousands of people??
"Being at the screening is so fun. There's so much energy in the room, but also you get to hear everyone's feedback first hand. Did they laugh where you meant to or get scared when the monster appeared? It's a good opportunity to step up your skills as an artist.”
🏸 Any interesting anecdotes?
"I did some of the foley playing badminton in my bedroom super late at night hoping I wouldn't wake my neighbors. We ended up running out of time for the crowds so I made a bunch of fun color blobs. The team kept zooming in trying to decide which they liked best."](https://s5.imginn.com/490238734_18498099112029466_5320626249984056258_n.jpg?t51.75761-15/490238734_18498099112029466_5320626249984056258_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_s1290x1290_tt6&_nc_cat=108&ig_cache_key=MzYwNzI3NDk5MDU2NTI4NzY2MA%3D%3D.3-ccb7-5&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=58cdad&efg=eyJ2ZW5jb2RlX3RhZyI6IkZFRUQueHBpZHMuMTQ0MC5zZHIucmVndWxhcl9waG90by5DMyJ9&_nc_ohc=Gfpuk-auSU0Q7kNvwFIocUz&_nc_oc=Adr8wZqGMa4dbfIx4BrM9AfLkMeHfX-E_D4KYv1ZdAh2ZWWpZAcqzUcZ_IpYC4rFZWG8Xb8a8H3zKvBaTOnkt6TM&_nc_ad=z-m&_nc_cid=0&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-ord5-1.cdninstagram.com&_nc_gid=nzRhWtIktRovIZ_IeR-FjA&_nc_ss=7a20f&oh=00_AQMvdgaAYbcR8fM9VGWfgrG4ZPPTa8yv783KGork6ROFkg&oe=6ADE6F7D)
