We're back in NYC this weekend with an industry reading of Bound To You! Bound To You was the 2025 recipient of Live & In Color’s June Bingham New Playwright Commission. The play was originally workshopped at L&IC’s Fall Retreat and now continues its development with this reading.

Bound To You, a new play by Vaibu Mohan, follows a Woman who enters a bondage studio seeking control and instead encounters a sly, disarming Demon drawn from the world of South Asian folklore. What begins as a simple rope session unravels into a surreal journey where myth, memory, and desire intertwine.

The readings are invite-only, but if you are interested in attending or learning more, please email Program Director Abigail Grubb.

Post-Ober, Day 11: And now a throwback to Peach Boy. Specifically, the construction of our crankie.

For years I’d been doing Peach Boy in tiny venues using hand made puppets and a crankie kit I bought off Etsy from Louis Leger. In preparation to do it at @panasianrep’s NuWorks Festival in 2024, it became clear everything needed to be larger or else audiences in a 99-seat theater wouldn’t be able to see the images. So, using an online guide by the Legers for design inspo (plus a video by @thealexvernon on YouTube) and some significant help from my dad (table saw), we built a gigantic crankie, showcasing a printed scroll with art by @sophmorlan

And where is Crankius Maximus today, you might ask? It’s still around… in our garage, broken due to a column of precariously stacked boxes toppling into it.

Globlord is a part of the @writeclubnyc this weekend! It is chock full of video game jargon that director @alexhad
and choregrapher @margo_e0 turned into a dance. Like if Club Penguin held a rave but instead of dancing we are performing complex dodge patterns and everyone hates each other and loves each other and is dressed in pajamas and we are all having a really difficult time making male friendships because everyone keeps
speaking
to
each
other
like
birds
and saying the R word but it’s normal for gamers, right? Am I being catfished?

I wrote this play based off found dialogue from raging gamers for an @alexhad bake-off, and am so awe-inspired by what this team has done with it that I reinstalled this app for the weekend. Pls send me cat reel. Ticket link in bio 🎟️. -Jason

On Sunday we officially wrapped on a week upstate in residency with Leviathan Lab at New York Stage and Film’s 2026 Summer Season! It was a privilege getting to hunker down and work on ICE STATION ALPHA in a dedicated environment, plus getting to share it with the community as well as experience the incredible new works that were also being shared on the Marist campus!

I’ve long dreamed of one day getting to develop work in a Poughkeepsie theater summer, and again, to have my first playwriting residency be spent with NYSAF feels like a fitting full circle moment.
