Mark Zuckerberg was a guest at the Sources podcast with Alex Heath for the launch of Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent.

Mark Zuckerberg wears the Voutilainen 28GML “SOUYOU” in platinum (“pièce unique”).

The dial is a one-of-kind masterpiece of Japanese lacquer conceived by the master Tatsuo Kitamura. The work incorporates various genres of lacquer art (including “Maki-e” and “Raden”) and different raw materials such as “Urushi” (tree sap), “Kinpun” (gold powders), “Kirigane” (cut gold sheets), and “Kirigai” (cut shells of New Zealand abalone and the great green turban).

Since the collaboration realizes the aspiration to bring together the work of artisans working in disparate traditions, the unique dial represents the harmonious juxtaposition of two seemingly opposing classical elements: water and fire. In its outer part, in its deep hues of blue and green, represents the sea, whereas at the center we see a symbolic depiction of the sun and its fiery energy in shades of red and gold.

The work has won the prize in the “Artistic Crafts” (Métiers d’Art) category at the 2025 edition of @gphg_official (the “Oscars of the horological world”). Not that Kari Voutilainen is otherwise a stranger to GPHG awards—12 awards in total since his first with the “Observatoire” in 2007—but it is important to note that 2025 marked the fifth time that a Voutilainen x Kitamura Studio collaboration won the prize in this category.

The dial center incorporates a 24-hour rotation disc that is easy to read at a glance, which makes the Voutilainen 28GML “SOYOU” a great watch for travelers. The central hour hand, for its part, may be adjusted by a simple push of the crown.

The mechanism was conceived and built, assembled and hand-finished at the Voutilainen workshop. It incorporates the trademark direct double-wheel escapement system that requires less energy than a Swiss lever escapement and an oversized balance wheel, which ensures rate stability and accuracy within the strictest of tolerances. To further increase the accuracy, the calibre uses a unique system for the hairspring: the exterior has a Phillips overcoil, while the internal curve uses the rarer Grossmann curve.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg just added another extraordinary piece to one of the most serious watch collections in the world. 😮‍💨

He was recently spotted at the @alexheath Sources Podcast wearing the 1-of-1 Voutilainen 28GML SOUYOU, a platinum-cased masterpiece and winner of the 2025 GPHG Artistic Crafts Watch Prize (Oscar Awards for watches). Its extraordinary dial combines Japanese Urushi lacquer with gold powders, cut gold sheets and fragments of abalone and green turban shell. ✨

And the collection only gets crazier. Zuckerberg also owns De Bethune’s “Kind of Blue” Tourbillon and “Purple Rain”, alongside a Greubel Forsey Handmade 1, Rexhep Rexhepi RRCC I, Simon Brette Chronomètre Artisans, George Daniels Anniversary No. 24. 🤩

Then comes his Insane F.P. Journe lineup, including the FFC, Vagabondage I, Astronomic Souveraine, Tourbillon Souverain “Ruthenium” and “Cœur de Rubis”, putting him firmly in the territory of serious independent-watch collectors. 🙂‍↕️🔝

OpenAI’s AI model goes rogue

Are frontier labs acknowledging that model capabilities are beginning to outpace human oversight:

@alexheath : “How the model actually escaped and hacked Hugging Face. It’s remarkable. It’s the first incident of this happening.

OpenAI didn’t have the safeguards in place. They didn’t foresee what would happen.

I talked to the chief scientist and head of research and a bunch of people, head of alignment about this.”
