I’ve always believed that a brand’s biggest asset is its genuine, passionate watch lovers. Not celebrities. Not paid faces. People who speak from the heart, share the love organically, and do it simply because they genuinely care. The legendary GOAT needs no introduction. My fascination with Gerald Genta’s work and his achievements in the world of horology has, over the years, turned into something of an obsession — to the point where I’d happily own one of each of his creations. Luckily, I’ve managed to get my hands on a few. So spending some time in Milano with Gerald Genta is pure bliss. Especially the GENTISSIMA OURSIN 41 GREEN METEORITE. This was one I noticed the moment it was released, and I knew I needed to experience it in the metal and on the wrist. Well… it’s epic. And it absolutely did not disappoint. I love everything about it. The case, the architecture, that insane green meteorite dial, and above all, the way it wears. Comfortable, distinctive and unapologetically Genta. This is what art on the wrist looks like. And yes… I’m hooked. 💚 #WrongWrist

Nel 1994, mentre si trovava in vacanza in Corsica, Gérald Genta rimase affascinato dalle geometrie perfette e aggressive di un riccio di mare (oursin, in francese). Da uno schizzo istintivo nacque un design rivoluzionario: una cassa convessa interamente tempestata di sfere e perline incastonate a mano. Non un semplice orologio, ma una scultura da polso che fonde l’alta orologeria con l’audacia della gioielleria d’avanguardia. Rispetto ai prototipi degli anni ‘90, l’Oursin moderno di @geraldgentaofficial è stato completamente riprogettato per risultare più piatto, slanciato e contemporaneo. La cassa convessa imita il corpo del riccio di mare. Sulla superficie sono avvitate singolarmente fino a 223 o 234 perline o aculei sferici (a seconda del modello), inseriti a mano con una precisione millimetrica. Sebbene la cassa esprime il concetto del rotondo e bombato, la firma geometrica di Genta (l’ottagono) è nascosta all’interno. Il vetro zaffiro è sfaccettato in modo unico, così da riflettere un profilo ottagonale direttamente sul centro del quadrante. La collezione si divide in tre grandi filoni, che spaziano dalle dimensioni classiche da 36.5 mm fino alle più imponenti versioni da 41 mm. Casse in titanio Grado 5 sabbiato con 234 perline in oro bianco montate a mano oppure cassa in oro giallo 3N, aculei lucidi in oro. È un orologio incredibile, folle, sportivo, elegante, prezioso ed è al polso che esprime tutto il suo potenziale. Five watches spotted on Adam Mosseri’s (@mosseri) wrist reveal a collector who looks beyond the usual icons: pieces by Gérald Genta and Daniel Roth from before both brands passed to Bulgari, and later LVMH, seldom-seen references from Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, and Cartier’s revived Tank à Guichets. Instagram head Adam Mosseri is a fan of Gérald Genta and his richly-treasured ‘70s designs. In his most recent Friday AMA session, Adam Mosseri wears the Gérald Genta “Pebble” in 18k yellow gold w/ a burlwood dial (ref. G.1097). With its lugless and rounded cushion case, the early-‘70s design is an emblematic example of Genta’s approach that always involves a play with geometric shapes, which, in modifying, juxtaposing, and reconstructing them, seemingly extracts out of them a natural form. Such is the case with this design whose rounded shape is reminiscent of a water-worn stone. The gadroon ridges, in their asymmetric flow, introduce a subtle play of light and shadow and make the “pebble” shape appear even more fluid—as if it were in movement. As if it were, in fact, a stone skipped across water generating ripples as it bounces off the surface. The burlwood dial in its uniquely organic, lightly lacquered appearance intensifies this quasi-natural experience of form, especially since it is entirely devoid of indices, markers, and even the customary signatures for brand and origin. Time telling takes the backseat in this bold exploration in form from the early days of Gérald Genta’s eponymous brand. As is often the case with the brand’s early years, the piece is exceedingly rare, possibly unique in this configuration. I have only ever seen another white-gold example that was fitted with an ebony wood dial (signed “GERALD GENTA” at 12 o’clock and “SWISS” at 6). What is your favorite Genta design?
