Daddy and I survived a horrendous ordeal this afternoon. I write to you from the safety of an ottoman, so you'll know that I am well. Swipe through for my review of the torture known as kayaking.

We’re four days away from Scale at @highconceptlabs. We had a really lovely time at our invited dress a couple weeks ago and appreciate our lovely community members that came out to share space with us! It was such a thrill to get to collaborate with @revecart for this work. She designed the costumes pictured here and is also showing two absolutely stunning pieces of art from a project that inspired the costumes. These pieces also serve as a tactile experience for audience members, providing a bit of access into the texture and experience of the costumes. Link in bio!

ID: five dancers in different colored costumes stand in a diagonal line that stretches away from the viewer. Each dancer holds up their right hand as if touching an invisible wall. They all look at their raised hand. Audience members sit around the dancers.

Scale is happening this weekend! Come check out the dance, the costumes, the art, the blankets, the pillows, the sounds, and all the other tiny, beautiful bits and pieces created by a team of lovely humans. Link in bio.

Unbelievably excited to have @revecart working on costume design for Scale, the work we’re currently developing at @highconceptlabs to be shown in May 2023. Here are some fun behind the scenes images of the design process where Reveca asked us to mark up our pain and will stitch a version of our markings into the costumes, creating a visual and tactile representation of our experiences of pain.

The process of creating these images was such a fun, wild thing - turning a highly medical question (“where is your pain?”) into one asked and answered in community with friends. I’m continually fascinated in this process by the ways that sick and disabled people take biomedical practices/languages and turn them into something fun, silly, and even beautiful.

ID 1: Robby, a brown-skinned man in a wheelchair with curly hair, wears a purple shirt and grey pants. He has white circles, Xs and scribbles drawn on a shoulder, both wrists, a hip and down one leg. Red words like “exhaustion,” “tight,” “pulling,” “electricity,” and “pins, needles, burning, freezing” accompany the drawings.

ID 2: Alex, a mid-size tall woman with dark brown, curly hair, wears a deep red shirt and pants. She has one white X drawn on each shoulder, wrist, hip and ankle.

ID 3: Maggie, a fat white woman with brown hair pulled back in a messy ponytail, wears light blue pants and shirt. She has groups of tiny, overlapping white Xs drawn around her hips, stomach, ankles, knees, wrists and across one shoulder.
