Transferring to Penn State may have saved Alex Manske’s life.

Alex is back on the field playing the game he loves, because a routine heart screening caught a hidden heart condition.

We are proud to team up with Heart Heroes like Alex to raise awareness, advocate for regular heart screenings, and keep every playing field safe! 💜

Penn State’s Alex Manske is this week’s nominee for the 2026 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Manske, a redshirt freshman quarterback, underwent open-heart surgery this past spring but returned to the playing field for the Nittany Lions, with a nine-inch scar across his chest.

"I don't really notice it too much anymore," Manske told the York Daily Record in August. "When I look at it, though, I just think of it was tough going through it, but I'm just thankful (doctors were) able to find it. I'm thankful for Penn State to be able to do the testing. If I didn't find it, you never know what could’ve happened.”

Coach Matt Campbell on potentially starting back up Quarterback Alex Manske:

“We have complete faith in Rocco Becht”

Which means Campbell is still riding with Becht to be the starting Quarterback.

“From an Alex standpoint, we have great belief he’s going to have a bright future. His time will come, but obviously that time is not right.”

What’s your thoughts on this? Should Penn State still have belief in Becht or is it time to see what Manske can do?
