The 2nd edition of Platforma BD – International Cluj Comics, Illustration and Animation Festival presents THE GROUND KEEPS MOVING — Borders, Mobility and Contested
Belonging.

Maps draw borders. People carry different geographies.
Through drawing, video, installation and mapping, thirteen artists explore migration, changing territories and the complicated relationship between place, identity and belonging.

What makes a place feel like home? And what happens when the ground beneath it keeps changing?

Alina Andrei / The Importance of a Good Past in Building a Decent Future

Sept 13 - Oct. 10/ Atelier 4

This exhibition could have several alternative titles, such as Desire Paths, Fake It Till You Make It, or Sometimes, Everything Is Bullshit.

Desire paths is a term used in urban planning to describe the routes intuitively created by pedestrians, usually across green spaces, when they choose to take the shortest way rather than follow paved paths. In the art world, it could also be about shortcuts—more precisely, about the simplest ways of achieving a more or less relative kind of success. Spoiler alert: no one really knows what they are, at least not as a universally valid recipe. I ended up running a small art space (for nine years already) more or less by accident—simply because I moved to Cluj and one day went out for a beer with some nice people (whom I didn’t know very well), and we talked (I no longer remember what about, or why).

Last year, while looking up information about myself on ChatGPT, I was surprised to discover that a series of my fanzines was supposedly part of the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The information was, is, and will probably remain false. Taking this as a pretext, I built myself a fictional artistic past and future, without any hope of concrete, tangible achievements (despite the title of the exhibition).

What this exhibition is NOT about: manifestation, the idea that you can turn your desires into reality through mental focus, visualization, and affirmations. I don’t believe anyone can end up exhibiting at MoMA, Tate, or the Pompidou simply through manifestation. On the other hand, I do know that it helps if an artist has already exhibited at major museums and galleries. But, as I said, sometimes, everything is bullshit.

Success can mean (also) paying the rent on time, having enough money for bread and cheese at 50% off (quick sale), or getting through an entire day without chronic anxiety

𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵 - Alexandra Mocan

“Joy Sauce in the Belly”

Artist: William Ludwig Lutgens @williamludwiglutgens

On view: @matcaartspace
22.05.2026-22.06.2026

“You find yourself yawning, but that doesn’t mean you are able to sleep.”

Like a suspended state of exhaustion, almost fuelled by a sleep paralysis-like condition, Joy Sauce in the Belly unfolds as a sequence of caricatural characters emerging like hallucinatory projections.
A mass of figures perform in various forms throughout the exhibition, oscillating between parody and psychological breakdown. Instinctively exploring humankind through anecdotes that slowly slip into darker territories of pleasure and suffering, William Ludwig Lutgens choreographs and performs his works at the same time, becoming both protagonist and source for his ongoing preoccupations with burnout, co-dependency, power relations, attachment and emotional exhaustion. Props and caricatural apparitions wearing wigs reveal their flesh like zombified carnations - decomposing, almost slipping out of their own skin.“
