Stopped at Kurt Cobain’s apartment in Olympia where he wrote Mrs. Butterworth and some other pretty good Nirvana songs. The show the other day in Seattle was easily one of the top 5 days in Fiddlehead trip history. We did a nervewracking set at @kexp and ripped a legendary set at Washington Hall. Venue = fire. Crowd = fire. The whole crowd was auramaxxing HARD. We played ‘The Dogs’ for the first time and it popped off. So grateful.

Fiddlehead Summer is proving to be extremely gratifying. We decided to open @outbreakfest with ‘Baby I’ll Change’ and it was insanely nervewracking as the crowd was so massive, it’s a deeply personal song, whole lotta lyrics and at that point it was new for us in terms of playing. I felt like I was gonna puke before playing. Nonetheless, we zipped in and did not get ambushed. Just sorta felt like the good people in the crowd were champions of human expression. Praise.

I got some much needed travel time in with the love of my life in Paris and Scotland on the end of that run. We walked and walked and walked and walked all over Paris and Scotland. Caught a Henry Taylor painting of my man Toussaint L’ouverture at the Picasso Museum. Watched Trainspotting in Edinburgh.

Went home for a week for some much needed fort-making and beach time with my kids then flew out to Vancouver for part two of Fiddlehead summer. We played at the Rick Shaw theatre and I saw a new depth of human despair on Hasting Street. The suffering seemed so immense I haven’t been able shake it from my mind since. Thought about my two children and the families wondering where their kids are. Glimpse of hell.

I’m writing this right now while Red House Painters plays as Dow drives with a godlike landscape of Oregon behind him after another perfect night of human expression with my best friends and total strangers in Portland. Glimpse of heaven.

10 years ago Basement broke down in a random spot somewhere in Austria. We had no choice but to find a local hotel and stay the night while we looked for a new trailer which we ended up renting from a goat farmer.

Yesterday at 7am we woke up to the bus pulled up on the side of the road and the smell of burning. The bus was done for and we had to wait 24 hours until we could arrange new transport. We soon realised we were in the exact same spot and ended up staying up at the exact same hotel 10 years later.

Seems pretty unlikely and I don’t know what this means, but I do know I’ll always regret never trying the meat cube or 40g muscle mouse protein drink.

This one’s for those of you who were wondering. My favorite thing about the studio is how drums sound in the live room.

That hallway mic is the MVP

Thanks to my friend @alexsalter for rocking it!
