At Byker’s @lighthouseprojectbyker, dreaming isn’t just a wistful distraction, it’s a spark that ignites the passions and aspirations of Newcastle’s youth.

With support from a @benefacttrust grant, national funding, and backing from the local community, the Lighthouse Project has transformed St Michael’s Church into a state-of-the-art facility where dreams are nurtured, and opportunities are born.

Really fun to be interviewed for The Observer Magazine about running to work, and even more fun to take part in a photoshoot with the extremely talented @alextelferstudio

Of all the races and challenges I set myself, the run commute is the most important. It’s the thing that has had the biggest impact. My training in consistency, mental strength and determination.

The run commute isn’t glamorous and it doesn’t show up on Instagram. It’s not about distance and it’s not about speed, it’s just about doing it. A deal I make with myself, and that’s all that matters.

“Doing this has given me self-belief and resilience. It has transformed the way I see myself. Every morning I open the front door and I’ve never shut it and thought, not today.”
