Marathon to Athens, Greece 🇬🇷

A month ago I got to cross off a bucket list item of running the original marathon route from the aptly-named Marathon to Athens.

To be sentimental for a bit, although my time goal was lost in the first few miles (humidity is my nemesis), I kept focus on the fact John from three years ago lying on his couch with his foot in the same boot he got from the last time he ruptured his achilles, couldn't even fathom moving a marathon distance, let alone running one.

I have continued work to do but I worked very hard to get where I am now and I'm probably in the best running shape I've been in for over a decade.

Very thankful to share this with a good longtime friend @alextprice. He literally nursed me back to health during the worst cramping of my life and was an exceptional travel companion considering we're somehow still friends after being around each other 24/7 for over a week.

Νίκη! On to the next.

The format for this one was simple: run a 4.15 mile loop in an hour. If you weren’t back within the hour and ready to start the next loop, you were eliminated.

The challenge, not so simple. On a sun-kissed 95° plus day, I survived 9 loops for a total of 37 miles, my longest run yet. I was in the final 9 of over 100 who started.

My goal in this was to go as far as I possibly could, and I achieved that. What was particularly challenging was the lack of time to take care of the things necessary to sustain one’s self i.e refilling water, eating, electrolytes, changing socks, cooling down.

Hands down one of the funnest days of my life, and yet another great challenge to learn more about the art of this thing we call running.
