“Sydenham” — live from The MAC, Belfast.

The opening track on For Now, and the first piece we wrote for the album. It takes its name from Davie’s house, where we first sat down together to begin making this collection of music.

Recorded live on 5 August as part of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Lovely to share this performance with you.

Filmed by Mikey Aldridge.
Mixed by Alex Borwick.

Hello!! So I released Middle on Friday. Thanks so so so much to everyone who listened, shared, bought and otherwise said nice things about it. I really appreciate it!
(If you are an Irish publication/radio station who hasn't heard it yet DON'T WORRY it's not too late to share/play it!!! I hear it's actually very cool and fashionable to support aging, unpopular, and not conventionally attractive artists!!!! 😁😁😁)

And of course, thanks a MILLION BILLION to the immensely talented team behind the song;
@shovlindrums @laurennig @ri__aroha @josh._.meakin and @alextrombanjo for tying it all together so beautifully!! Also thank you to @pete.7414 for a lovely job mastering it.

If you swipe through here (I will help you by pointing) you will see some of the beautiful animations @philippa_rice did, which you can enjoy in the lyric video! (Follow the link in the bio!)

“Sydenham” was the first piece written for For Now. Its title comes from the name of the house
where Davie Ryan lives and where the band first sat down together to begin writing the music that
would eventually become the new album.
At that early stage, there was no fixed idea of what the record would become. The band were simply
beginning to explore new material together, following ideas as they emerged and allowing the wider
character of the album to develop naturally. “Sydenham” grew out of those first sessions and
quickly came to represent the beginning of a new creative chapter for NOTIFY.
As the rest of For Now gradually took form, the piece found its natural place at the beginning of the
record. Its position as the opening track reflects more than sequencing alone. It is the point from
which the album grew.
Naming the piece after the place where those first ideas were developed became a way of
preserving something of that moment. “Sydenham” acts as a small marker of the surroundings,
conversations and creative energy that set the album in motion.
The track also introduces the musical approach heard throughout For Now, with NOTIFY continuing
to draw on the individual voices within the band while developing a collective sound that moves
freely between composition, arrangement and improvisation.
“Sydenham” was composed by Pádraig Rynne, arranged and performed by NOTIFY, and produced
by Pádraig Rynne and Davie Ryan. The track was recorded by Joe McGrath at Hellfire Recording
Studios, mixed by Alex Borwick and mastered by Sam Proctor at Lismore Mastering.
“Sydenham” runs for 4 minutes 20 seconds and opens NOTIFY’s new album For Now
