Moving to college is exciting, but there are always a few things nobody thinks to tell you until you’re already there. 😭

So we put together a few of our tried-and-true essentials for Black girls heading to USC — from hair care and shower must-haves to the little things that make dorm life a whole lot easier.

Fresh Prince of Kutuje!

So grateful to God to have been have been a part of “The Gods are Not to Blame”. Doing a MainStage production in my only first semester at SDA has been such a journey and a privilege.

I’m so grateful for the family I made along the way, you all you are such wonderful, talented individuals and I’m honored to have shared the stage with you. Especially to the guest actors, thank you for your constant guidance and for allowing me to learn and grow from all the knowledge you shared.

Thank you @africantheatrela and @bayoakinfemi for giving me the opportunity to share my love for the craft and my love for my culture on the same stage.

And thank you to Aderopo, your reign will be long…

Woww I cannot believe it’s already been 2 WEEKS since opening night of my first USC production. I am soo thankful and blessed to be apart of this wonderful production. Shoutout to God first cuz he truly answered my prayers by blessing me with this cast and play & I would be NO WHERE without him 🙏. Words can’t describe how much this play, cast, and experience meant to me 10/10 experience!! I learned so much about Nigerian culture and met so many new friends and mentors from the play I would’ve never even dreamed of knowing. Shoutout to the cast and crew bc they felt like a family always staying positive and loving, shoutout to my director Bayo Akinfemi for believing in me enough to cast me as Gbonka, and shoutout to my family and everyone who supported me 🫶 THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING muchh more to come in the future #staytunedd

It has been an amazing experience to be able to be apart of “The Gods Are Not To Blame” through @africantheatrela and @uscsda!! This was my first MainStage show at USC and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. To be able to be apart of an all Black cast and put on and African production like this has been my dream!! Being able to act in the only USC show that was tied with professional performers has me feeling so blessed! Theater should be a welcoming space for all and cause for laughter, joy, and community . ✨✨✨Going to rehearsals everyday and seeing people who look like me as we celebrate the beauty of Nigerian culture has been so beautiful. Through this, I’ve been able to connect to my own Nigerian roots through means of celebration and make a bunch of new friends!! The cast, crew, and director were all wonderful and I couldn’t imagine a better end to my Sophmore year!!

Theater is REVOLUTION. Theater Is RESISTANCE.
This experience filled me in a way I don’t have words for. To be of service to Yoruba women, to African women, to Black women PERIOD has been an honor I will carry with me forever.
I couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful way to close my college journey than offering this as a love letter to Black women. My heart is so full.
Queen Ojuola, you hold the spirit of my mother, my aunts, my mentors, my people. Getting to embody a character rooted in resilience, joy, and deep love for her community is something I will never take for granted.
