I know majority of us thought 2020 was our year. But as always god knows best.

Since start 2020 has been harsh. And then the pandemic destroyed everything.

Some of us struggle with toxic households without break so some of us went through un-talked traumas. Some of us achieved little things and found solace in them so some of us kept on waiting for good to happen.

But somehow we found people who stood by us. Friends who heard our cries. Siblings who fought for last bite of pizza. Pets who stared us with admiration. Parents who scolded us for being too careless. And best was having God who held our hands even when world was falling apart.

In all it was a mixture. Like “mix sabzi” yk where you love to eat peas but you avoid bringals but ended up eating “tinde” because they looked like potatoes.

But what’s matter is we all survived and maybe because god wants us here for something good we survived.

In end Let’s pray that whatever God has planned for us may we find acceptance in it. Ameen.

Back in August, when Javaria @wordsareshelters posted about her initiative of publishing a zine in partnership with some other writers/ artists, I was intrigued. I saw it, saved the post, saw it again, and I knew I had to get it, no matter what.

Querencia:
(n) a place where one’s strength is drawn, where one feels at home, the place where you are your most authentic self.

It arrived last week and needless to say I loved everything about the package. The minimal postcard depicting the meaning of Querencia, two gorgeous bookmarks & a handwritten note, everything was beautiful.

The zine itself was an epitome of aesthetics. I just finished reading it & it touched all the right chords. I will be re-reading it sometime soon. This zine represents 22 pages of sheer creativity, wholesome/ heartbreaking writeups combined with the magical journal entries/ artworks.

I was engrossed in these intense pieces of raw, relatable, and incredible writing in a heartbeat.

From the raw human emotions to the oppressive patriarchal standards & finding strength, to the haunting impact of anxiety & depression, to a bilingual letter dealing with loss, nostalgia & memories, the love of a city, the significance of journaling as a process, the beauty of scars & the existential crisis we all go through, along with the dreams, kindness & resilience; these write-ups cover it all & then some.

It felt like a journey to numerous worlds at the same time.

Some people are always told what to do all their lives, and so naïve of them to get manipulated by other people (close to them). Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, Lover(s), Friends... Strangers???
And they don’t realize it very soon until something big happens, or maybe something small... We can’t really know.
...
Well I guess you should eat apples instead of mangoes!
No! You have to love him because he loves you more than anything in the world!
Wear what I brought you for this event, not this ugly dress please!
Yaar this lipstick doesn’t suits you, it’s too bold for you, you know!
You are supposed to apologize to that person it was your fault!
So what if he cheated on you once, he still loves you and can die for you!
...
Your fault Your fault Your fault !!!
You get to listen such things all the time when you try to love yourself a little, for once.
They never in their lives realize or even consider how you feel or what you need... Nobody cared enough to ask you, “what you want to do?” Are you.. are you not a human too?
These people, these most important people of your life make you feel bad about yourself and drag you to the point where you question yourself, “what have you done wrong to have this written in your fate?” But you just can’t deny the fact that you love these people, and at the end of the day you’re the one to blame, you let them to manipulate you by their opinions. But you cannot abandon them (just like they did to you once or more than once). They cannot know your pain, (Not worthy enough of knowing? Or maybe they wouldn’t bother to understand, again).
You are unable to make these feelings just go away.
The anger, the frustration, the sleeplessness.... that’s too much... Everything is too much....

Sometimes you know that you shouldn't overthink but you cannot control the way you feel.
Sometimes you want to get things done but it doesn't work out.
Sometimes you want people to understand you too but you know they won't.
Sometimes you want to be listened to aswell but no one's really there for you.
Sometimes you wish for the lost people to comeback but it's just not possible.
Sometimes you miss those happy days so much that you want them back but then you agree with your present.
Sometimes you're on the edge of losing yourself and nobody notices.
Sometimes you just want to giveup but later you remember the efforts it took to come this far.
Sometimes you wish your prayers to be accepted soon but good things take time.
Sometimes you want life to stop testing you this much
But
Life's not a wish granting factory.
This is how it is.
But
Good times are to come.

Aj phir se uska dil bechain sa tha, ajeeb sa khauf ajeeb si ghabrahat thi jo usse har taraf se ghaire hye thi. Uske pass dunya ki har asaish maujood thi; bara ghur, achi gaari, paisa sub kch tha phir bhi aik udaasi aur tanhai ka ehsaas tha jo usse har waqt ghaire rhta tha. Waja usse maloom na thi, usne har tarah ki koshish ki ke apna mind divert krle kisi na kisi kaam mai takae ye tanhai aur akaile-pan ka ehsaas usse maar na de magar besood. Bachpan se hi usse azaadi mili hoi thi tau wo kaafi bigar gya tha, parties mai jana, bar jana, night-club mai ayashi krna ye sb kch uske lye mamool ki baat hogai thi.
Uss raat bhi wo night-club se wapis arha tha aur nashe ki waja se wo apni gaari naa chala skta tha tau usne cab book krli ghur tk. Pardais mai rhne ki waja se ziadatar non-muslim driver hi mila krte thae magar uss raat aik muslim driver usse pick krne aya. Jb wo gaari mai baitha tau usse quran ki tilawat speaker pe sunai di. Usne nagawari se muu bnaya, wo khud musalmaan tha magar quran aur namaz ka usse door door tk talluq na tha. Usse tau ye b yaad na tha ke akhri baar usne namaz kb prhi thi. Thoori hi dair guzri hogi ke usse Surah Ṭā Hā ki 124th ayat sunai di:
“And whoever turns away from My remembrance to him there will be a difficult life.” (Quran, 20:124)
Ye sun kar uski ragoo mai sansanahat daur gai. Usse aesa laga ke jese Allah usse btana chah-rha ho ke Shahzaib tmhari iss tanhai ki waja mjhse aur mere kalaam se dooor bhagna hai. Usse pasinae aane lag gaye. Usne driver se A.C ki cooling brhane ko kaha. A.C full chilled chal rha tha magar wo ayat uske dimagh mai baar-baar ghoom rhi thi aur wo paseenoo mai bheeg chukka tha. Uska ghur aya tau wo jaldi se driver ko paise deke andar bhaga aur shower lene chala gya aur wapis aakar soone lait gya magar poori raat wo baichain rha aur neend usse door bhaagti rhi. Wo uthkar bahir lounge mai aagya jaha uska hafiz dost quran ki tilawat kr rha tha. Usse uski tilawat sunkar aik sakoon sa apne andar mehsoos hone laga.
