It took me such a long time to start wearing short skirts & dresses again since I had a new friend accompanying me everywhere I went. A brand-new purple raised keloid scar looking like a snake(and I hate snakes!). I never particularly admired my legs but I was never bothered by them either. I accepted them until all of a sudden I did not anymore. It took me years not to cry every-time someone would stare at it on the bus, at the park, on a walk. But I kept wearing skirts because that IS/WAS part of my own signature style, because I knew one day I would have accepted them as I was working so hard on my own empowerment styling journey of self-love and acceptance. One day I took courage: a beautiful young chic all covered up woman was staring at it while I was sitting at a coffee shop; that time instead of getting angry I asked: “May I ask what do you find so interesting about my scar?”. I was expecting for her to feel embarrassed. Instead this beautiful elegant young powerful woman answered: “I admire your confidence not to care about what other people might think, I admire what you might have been through and survived, I admire how you show off what makes you different from others, I am curious to know what happened to you and how you face life with such a smile, I would like to learn from you how to dress with such confidence while I spend every morning thinking about how I can cover all the parts I don’t like about my body”. WOW. Not only did I assume she was staring at me with pity but she was also admiring me. So I changed completely the narrative about this scar in my head and I promise you, you will always always finding me showing my legs when I feel like. No shame, no fear, just self-love. P.S. That young beautiful woman became my first client and we are friends to this day :)
