AFRICAN FASHION, IN MOTION. 💃

Sunday afternoon was all about celebrating African creativity at the @createconnect.africa Fashion Showcase, hosted at @tweaknstyle_.

We joined an intimate gathering for an exclusive presentation of six African designers, bringing their collections off the rails and into motion. From striking silhouettes to considered details, each look offered a fresh perspective on how African design translates into the modern wardrobe.

The showcase featured six incredible labels from across the continent:

Founded by Janine and Shingai, Create Connect is more than a fashion platform. It’s about championing African talent, connecting designers with new audiences and creating opportunities for their brands to flourish beyond borders.

And the best part? All six collections are now available to explore and shop at the Create Connect Studio!

Korhogo cloth does not move like this. That difference is where Alia Baré’s (@alia.bare) SS26 Senoufo collection begins.

The pictorial Korhogo cloth we recognise today isn’t the fixed tradition it looks like. It was reshaped in the 1960s and 70s as makers responded to new markets, which complicates any neat story about heritage and its reuse. That history is where the piece goes.

What a night! 🎉 Immensely proud to be awarded at the inaugural Africa International Design Awards in Cotonou. The celebration of design from across the continent I love, the insightful conversations and ambiance of innovation are still tangible to me. I thank God for the gift of doing what I love and dedicate the award to my family and the continent of Africa. Congrats to all awardees.

A highlight of my visit to Sèmè City was sharing the stage with this incredible group of designers, innovators and pioneers during the AIDA Fire Talks. Beyond the presentations, it was inspiring to hear the origins of each project and the impact they are creating across different regions in Africa.

Visiting @africadesignschool was equally refreshing. It reinforced my belief that Africa’s greatest strength lies in its youth, empowered through innovation, learning, and a solution-oriented approach to design.

It was an experience of learning, exchange and meaningful conversations, further fueling my immense optimism about the future of African design. 🇧🇯
