The hardest part of the wedding day for me was not having my mom there with me.

She loved details more than anyone I know, and I could almost hear her taking it all in—the flowers, the ribbons, the dresses, the place cards. She would have noticed every little thing, commented on all of it, and thought it was all amazing and perfect.

I wanted to find a way to have her feel a little closer that day, so I sprinkled pieces of her jewelry around the room on some of the people dearest to me. Two of my closest friends, who knew and loved my mom and walked beside me through her illness, along with my nieces, my sister-in-law, and me, each wore something of hers.

Makila wore her watch. Cara wore her signature heart necklace. Ariana wore Mom’s wedding ring and high school watch. Alice wore her three-row diamond ring. I wore her sapphire cocktail ring and signature charm bracelet, and Sarah wore the diamond and pearl earrings Mom almost never took off.

At the reception, I shared what I had done with my dad, and we gathered together for this photo.

It was such a small thing, but it meant so much to me. Pieces of her, quite literally, were all around me that day. And somehow, in the middle of a day when I missed her more than I can say, it made her feel a little bit closer. 🩵

Jack and Sarah had asked for a rehearsal dinner in our backyard…with Lachele’s Burgers. (Bride burger and a Groom burger Father of the bride movie reference). I enlisted the help of Olivia @atouchofgrace__events to help me pull this off. She ordered all the rentals, lined up the catering, found the tablecloths for me to order, helped design the invitations and hosted it all night for us. I’m so grateful for her help and that she saw my vision right away! Special thanks to:
@sydmocreativeco for the chalkboard sign @lachelesfinefoods for the catering @piesbylana for the French silk pies @caralarsonterwilliger for the placecards @soulscribemn for the invites AND the help of my brother and his entire family and all of our girls for help with flowers and set up. 🍔🍟🥧 and @jillkortphotography for taking photos for me
