Barberman: The Alexander Clark Story
June 12-14 (12 @7pm; 13 @2pm & 7pm; 14 @2pm)
*talkbacks to follow 12, 13 (post 7pm only), & 14

This show has literally been years in the making. When I received the play commission for this project two years ago I had no idea how deeply the researching and drafting of this story would inform much of my surrounding works or how deeply it would serve as a resounding echo for so many of incongruities that are shaping the world today. As we watched many of the platforms and digital materials that housed many of the primary and secondary resources that fed the creation of this play be wiped from the internet in real time, I am reminded of the significance of the arts as a tool of preservation and communication that actively demands and resists erasure by its necessitation of living engagement. In the grand scene my time in Iowa has been brief but I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to write for the recovery of this piece of Black history in this state.
Many thanks @thestanleycenter @muscatineartcenter @iowaengagement and special thanks to @allseeinii for thinking of me when this project was posed.
