POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Two weekends with the best people, some of us haven't been together for over 20 years and some of us just can't shake each other off!

And Arsenal winning the Premier League was, of course, the icing on the cake!

More of this please summer 2026!!

Stumbled across this HuffPost interview @alwaysrhysing and I did for our short film #Chaser back in 2014. So much has changed in a decade, including the availability of PrEP, but it’s disturbing to see the Trump administration, led by the dangerously unfit RFK Jr., setting us back by gutting life-saving HIV/AIDS programs and defunding vital vaccine research that could finally lead to a cure.

You can watch the film on Vimeo On Demand with commentary from me and Max, BTS footage, and more.

Located at 643 Broadway on the corner of Bleecker Street, Mr. Black (sometimes called the Mr. Black Dance Den) was a rambunctious gay dance club open in Manhattan's Noho from 2006-2009. According to @cssommerfeld, it was "literally the most magical place in New York for a young gay circa 2006."

In 2006 Mr. Black opened in NYC at 643 Broadway, though during its 3 years in existence closed & reopened twice, eventually moving to 251 W 30th Street between 7th & 8th Ave (Mr. Black 3) before shuttering for good.

A 2006 NYTimes writeup (entitled "It's Too Darn Dark at Mr. Black") described the club thus: "Patrons participate in nocturnal rituals of a more underground nature. A dim staircase descends into a brick-vaulted basement, which over the past 150 years has been a subway tunnel, a Black Panther haunt, an S&M dungeon, & now, a gay bar."

The writeup further depicted the club's ambience: "Weekends are predictably gay, with bare-chested -& sometimes bare-bottomed- waiters serving rum-&-Diet Cokes to stylists & publicists who come to cruise, preen & gossip."

Mr. Black was host to a variety of recurring & one-off parties, such as "Actor Turned Hustler" Thursdays, Man Parrish's "Bad Boy Club" Sundays, & Jonny McGovern's (aka the Gay Pimp) "Boys Gone Wild" Saturdays, described as a fun frat boy go-go party. DJs who played at Mr. Black included Spencer Sweeny, Gant Johnson, Ben Brunnemer, Sammy Jo (of Scissor Sisters fame) & Miss Honey Djion, who once had her birthday bash there.

In 2007 it was reported that 17 people at Mr. Black were arrested one night during a 4AM raid conducted by a small army of police from Manhattan South narcotics squad. It was mentioned that notable club regulars like Ladyfag & Stuart Armando, one Mr. Black's owners, escaped while "The Ass" aka Luke Nero, a bottomless cocktail waiter & "Mini-Ass" aka Chase Hostler, a go-go boy, were detained.

In 2008, Daniel M wrote in Grubstreet: "The Mr. Black lair is one of the city’s sexiest & most storied."

@cssommerfeld reminisced about his time there: "I just remember making out with go-go boys...meeting paramours before the internet became the default."

Thank you @Queerty for this thoughtful piece on #Chaser’s 10th anniversary. Looking back, the film really is a snapshot in time (and in my life), and @alwaysrhysing and I are grateful it’s still sparking conversation. 🔗 in stories! 🙏🏳️‍🌈
